I was so disappointed with the crowd at the National tournament this weekend. We were sitting right by mat 13, and there was a match that the crowd actually starting booing one of the boys and cheering for the other one. How unsportmanlike was that?? Yes I did watch the matches all day and witnessed his behavior in a match before that, but his coach pulled him from the match and obviously talked to him. When he came back for this match, he had a differant attitude, and then got booed everytime he made a point. As far a I'm concerned the ref should have thrown up a caution to the crowd and given that boy points. These are kids after all, and part of it is teaching them to be good sports, win or lose. I want to point out that I am not associated with either club, and/or wrestlers. I'm just upset about the way they treated this boy.

The crowd was brought in to the mix by the further antics and adventures of the THOK coaches totatlly belittling and trying to intimidate the ref during the match.

It was pretty ugly but the wrestling was great. I really don't the crowd was rooting against either of the kids but the antics in the corner of the hard knox coaches.

I don't care if the coach took a dump in the middle of the mat. The crowd was out of line!!!
This is not about how the coach was or was not acting... it was a BOY 12-14 years old wrestling his heart out to boos!!! The coach shook hands AND hugged the other wrestler!!

Somehow,,i feel that u are associated with THOK, that is exactly the reply that would come out of it. The kids did well on the mat,, the THOK kid was cocky acting,,got whupped, the coaches stirred the crowd up,,,

If you look at my profile....you will see that you are wrong!! I don't know any of them. I've read plenty of the stuff on here about TOHK, but personally haven't seen them do anything to warrant bashing or booing them. Grant it...I've seen them sometimes get excited....but I've seen plenty of coaches do that. Nobody is booing their wrestlers. He MIGHT have appeared cocky, but maybe he was just hyped up for a tough match. Who knows?!

"Throw up a caution to the crowd"

Come on now, what are they going to do? throw the entire section of fans out of the event? The crowd is and always will be a part of the sport. As long as i've been around I have noticed a few things and one of them is that I crowd won't boo a particular wrestler unless they have done something pretty bad i.e cut-throat gestures, fliping-off the crowd, not skaing hands at the end. I don't neccasarily agree with the booing but it does happen. We can't expect the 40 year olds in the crowd to act adult like but we should expect the kids too, so if this wrestler was doing something he wasn't supposed to or his coaches were then perhaps he got what he deserved.

Let the kids wrestle. The only reason the crowd got so involved was because of the coach and his actions. The official should have warned the coach for not staying in the coaches area and then had him removed from if he violated the rules again. Sportsmanship begins with the parents, then the coaches and then the response by the parents and coaches if the wrestler exibits poor sportsmanship. You have poor examples shown to the wrestler and he will follow the example 9 out of 10 times.

Nigel,

Believe it or not but I was at an event within the last year where an entire bleacher section got tossed from a basketball event....it could happen in wrestling, but I doubt it as well as you do.
