Just wanting a few opinions. And I know this is the place for that!
Our HS team has wrestled at the Eudora Tournment the past few years...and I personally have enjoyed it. This year we will be going to Clay Center.

Which tournament do you feel is the "better" tournament to attend...competition wise?

I've never been to Eudora's tourny but on paper it looks good. Clay Center does have some good competition with Norton, Andale, and Junction City this year.

I've always been partial to the Eudora tournament because it utilizes a pool format which helps to get every member of team as many matches as possible. At Eudora you also get a two-day tournament in December which are somewhat hard to come by. Eudora also has several top programs in attendance with Lansing, Chanute, Gardner Edgerton, Lawrence, and STA. With twenty-some teams attending you're bound to see multiple ranked wrestlers clashing in the semis and finals matches. Eudora is a little top heavy with 4A schools.

Clay Center has the cream of the crop in terms of perennial wrestling programs with Norton, Andale, and of course Clay Center. There are also teams like Ellsworth and Beloit that seem to make a run every couple of years. Junction City and Salina South are also contenders this year at the state tournament. You also get a good mix of all classifications at Clay Center with several small schools like Ellsworth and several large schools like Lawrence Free State. This tournament is more balanced in terms of teams from each class.

Ultimately, I would say for me it comes down to mat time for my less experienced wrestlers, so I would likely pick Eudora as a better tournament for developing a whole team. However, if I had what I thought was a state contending team I would like to go to Clay Center to match up with five teams ranked in top 4 of their classification.

To help you with your decision we will be running a pool format at the Clay Center tournament. A lot of wrestlers will get 5 matches in a day.

Thanks for the input...I knew all I had to do was ask smile Sounds like both tourney's are good competition. Looking forward to Saturday..checked out my sons bracket and there looks to be 1 4a, 1 5a and 1 6a ranked wrestler in his weight class that will be attending.

To be totally honest I think what you also have to do is figure out who you see the least of in competitions during the year. Sometimes it is best to see different bodies from all over the place. Say you are 4a and are a KC area team, it may not be a bad idea to go see what is going on at JC, since you will for the most part probably run into many of those other KC area teams at a tournament at some point. Same goes vice versa.
