No. 17 Tigers Too Much For Cowboys
Jan. 21, 2010
The Fort Hays State wrestling team returned to dual action on Thursday night at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M. The No. 17 ranked Tigers won eight of 10 matches to claim the conference dual by a score of 31-9, moving to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC.
The Tigers took control of the dual immediately winning the first four matches for an early 17-0 lead. Blake Malloy opened the dual with a tight 2-0 decision, but Shawn Kuhlman and Chance Rencountre added major decisions and Steven Kyler recorded a fall to give FHSU the big lead.

New Mexico Highlands scored all nine of its points in the next two matches. Jesse Boggs pinned Justin Glenn at heavyweight with just over 30 seconds remaining in the match. Then, Seth Wright of NMHU played giant killer for the second time in a couple of weeks by defeating Tommy Edgmon with a 5-0 decision. Edgmon was tabbed No. 1 in the nation in his weight class yesterday in the latest Division II rankings. Wright defeated the previous #1, Arsenia Barksdale of Adams State, a couple of weeks prior. Wright is not in the current rankings.

The Tigers seized the momentum again, winning the last four matches with a pair of decisions and a pair of major decisions. Andre Harrison, ranked No. 2 at 141, and Danny Grater, ranked No. 6 at 157, each tallied the major decisions in that run. Travis Kuhn (133) and Levi Younkin (149) picked up the decisions.

Fort Hays State returns to conference action tomorrow at Adams State College (Fri., Jan. 22). The dual is set to begin at 8 pm central time, 7 pm mountain time. Adams State is No. 14 in the latest Division II rankings.
