That baseball number seems a little suspect. How many schools have baseball programs and how many have wrestling programs??

i would say that many of the small schools would struggle to field a baseball team.
however they surely have some sort of track team.
also many bigger schools fail to field or schedule games for a JV squad, thus limiting the amount of participants.

Too many. I figured that there were WAY fewer baseball programs in the state. But I don't know.

The thing about baseball is there is a Freshman Team, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. I would also think most of your 4A, 5A, and 6A schools would have all three teams.

Only a handful of schools, total, in 6A,5A,4A & 3A do not play baseball. About 1/2 of the 2A-1A schools field teams. So, right at 200 Kansas high schools have baseball. I counted baseball teams a year or so ago because of a proposal that our school start baseball. I have not counted wrestling teams.

i know of quite a few 4a and 5a teams that don't have freshman/ JV baseball teams.

321A has over 20 teams at each regional. But there are many programs that only have a couple of wrestlers. There aren't quite 64 teams in 4A because Girard and Wichita Trinity do not have wrestling programs. My estimaiton for the amount of wrestling teams in Kansas would be just over 200.

With wrestling being the most mentally and physically demanding sport, it's not hard to believe the easier sports have more competitors.

If someone had the time, it would be interesting to see how our kids test scores rank against these schools. If higher then most of these states, it would support the idea that sports participation improves academic development.

On nights when I go to pick up my wrestler up from practice, I notice the Basketball team has already gone home. Maybe Basketball is an easier sport? It would also be interesting to compare GPA to these other sports.
