If a kid moves up a weight halfway through the season, those wins at the lower weight are many times not counted. I know they are contested at seeding meetings. You will see coaches enter them as 0-0.
I agree that they could be "contested" at a seeding meeting like a lot of things could be and those "extenuating circumstances" probably should be at least pointed out at a seeding meeting. But when it comes to the record submitted by the coach at regionals, it is supposed to be all varsity matches, end of discussion. That's the way I did it for twenty years as a head coach. That's the way I was raised, educated and instructed.
I agree everything should be counted. Here are some of the "angles" that I see used. 1. Kids drop a weight and only count matches from new lower weight. 2. Kids wrestle up and get beat and don't count those losses. 3. Kids default out for injury or illness and don't count losses.
Rarely do you see a kid/coach not count wins...only losses.
Yes, badbo and rarely do we see a kid default and count the loss. I admired Bo for taking that default loss last year with him to state. Obviously it didn't hurt him as we know what he did when he got there.
