I'm trying to find the answer to this question: What is the largest margin of Victory from 1st place to 2nd place teams in the State Tournament. Norton was fortunate enough to wrestle very well at state and win by 94.0 pts. over the 2nd place team.
I know that there have been some other large margins of victory, but I can not find those official scores. During the Beloit, and Ark City Dynasties, they surely had some large margins of victory.

Do your research and please do not just go off of memory. Because I thought in 2003 when Hoxie scored 218.5 pts. at the state tourn. they would have won by a ton of points. They did win by a large margin of victory, but only 74.5 pts. Still very impressive.

p.s. Side challenge: How many teams other than Hoxie have scored 200 pts. at the State Tourn. Come on Ark City fans, I remember about 6-8 state finalist in some years.

The most points Ark City ever scored at State is 214 in 1996.

Ark City records. I don't know if these are State Records or not.

*Most State Champions: 5 Champions in 1 Season this happened in 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1994.

*Most State Finalist: 7 Finalist this happened in 1989 and 1995

I can not find margin of victory will see what I can come up with.

In 2008 two 6A teams finished with over 200 points. There was a wide margin separating 3rd and 2nd. 88 points to be precise.

1 Goddard 209.0
2 Derby 204.5
3 Manhattan 116.5

What year did it switch from 12 to 14 weight classes? That has a pretty good factor in Team Points. I know the Ark City team in the 80's was only 12 wrestlers! Derbys 85 & 86 team had pretty good margins, I will see if I can pull some of that info out of Mom & Dads house!

In the days when there were only 12 weight classes and 4 placements at state tournaments, Derby's margins were as follows:

*1985 6A
Derby -148.5 Points
Manhattan -93.5 Points

=55 Points
*1986 6A
Derby -146.5 Points
Emporia -103 Points

=43.5 Points
These are the ones that I have information on. I don't know about the other State Championships.

We did not break 200 but had a pretty good spread in 1991. The Margin was 97 points. There were only 13 weights and there was no such thing as 5th and 6th.

Ark City 192.5

Kaupan 95.5

Did any team ever score 200 points when there were just 12 weights and only 4 places? Could this have even been possible?

200 points divided by 12 wrestlers = 16.67 team points per wrestler.

Doable.

Very Impressive Beeson, I knew that you Bulldogs had some very large margins of victory. Even more impressive with the team score without the 5th/6th place points.
I think the 5th/6th place went into effect in 1996. The only reason I know that, is my wrestlers Josh Kellerman placed 5th that year, and I think it was the 1st year for those medals.

Beloit beat runner up Columbus in 4A in 1984 193 to 81.5, margin of 111.5 pts. This was the year Beloit placed 9 of 12 wrestlers with 6 State Champs during the 12 weight class era. Beloit beat runner up Oberlin in 1983 by 91.5 pts. (189.5 to 98), and runner up St. Francis in 1981 by 84.5 pts. (181.5 to 97).

I knew that Beloit had to have some outstanding scores at state. I personally could not believe the crowd that they would bring to the state tourn. The student section used to be allowed down on the floor bleachers and the Beloit students were a very intimidating group to a little kid from Rosalia-Flinthills. Especially since my fellow students had no idea what wrestling was.
