Why does this not surprise me?? A little insight to the Garden City tournament and how it went. Arrive at the gym at 8:00 or their abouts on Saturday morning after a Friday night weigh in to try to find out our match # and when we are wrestling. 8 Man bracket with a couple of byes and we have one of those so are first bout is # 29. Warm up till 9:00 or their abouts tournament ready to start. NOT !!!! After a 1:00 hour delay of the tournament it starts at 10:00 My sons bracket now has 4 kids RR right. NOT !!!4-kids and they leave them in an 8 man. I start thinking why the delay in the tounament if they aren't going to rework the brackets. OK getting close to 12:00 and we are getting close to my sons match. NOT !!! WHAT A LUNCH BREAK !!!! 12:30 back wrestling and getting close the tables are going SLOW !! After match 29 the next match is 61 IT'S 3:30 and were ready to wrestle that match . It's over lets go home. The medals are to be picked up in the gym???? OK After sending my son in to get his medal and waiting for a good 15-20 minutes a decide to go in the gym myself and see what the hold up is. OH MY GOD WHAT A DISASTER !!!!!! Brackets everywhere kids everywhere and no organization. I go back outside and make some calls to kill some time be cool with the situation. After another 10 minutes or so back in the gym still same thing. I AM UPSET and tell one of the workers to mail the medal. She get another medal out of another bag and gives us a second place medal and were on our way.
It's only 4:30 by now How late did the people that had match 80 or so have to stay??????

There are two (2) clubs in Garden City. This was NOT the Garden City YMCA Wrestling Club, but Southwest Grapplers Wrestling Club of Garden City.

While I don't care one way or the other if a tournament posts results NWKCAT brings up a good point. That being the SOP of all tournaments starting late these days. In District 2 I have not been to a tournament this year that started on time! Tournament directors listen up! It is NEVER acceptable to rebracket the day of the tournament UNLESS there is a problem that is your fault or an act of God such as a winter storm! When and where you can rebracket in such an instance as NWKCAT gives do so as long as it doesn't hold up the tournament. I don't care that if there are a bunch of scratches nor the reason. You run these tournaments for the betterment of the majority of the kids not some individuals who don't make weight or happen to be in a bracket that with same. That is the luck of the draw. We are fortunate in D2 that a combination of low numbers and spit tournament formats should make Saturdays manageable. But all that is lost if you choose to rebracket and start the tournament late.
