I am starting to get a few inquiries about the availability of certification clinics. I will take this opportunity and try to address your concerns.

All clinics currently scheduled, are listed on this web page. A couple are pending but have not been finalized.

The certification, in order to maintain its validity, must be about 6 hours, and does require attendance. Currently there is no other method to gain your card! In order for the experience to be valuable one, we need at least 10 - 12 coaches. A clinic with 2 or 3 coaches generally is not worthwhile. First, because the discussions, which are a big part of the experience, are not sufficient. Second, is the impact this would have on our clinicians. And finally, it is contrary to the recommendations of USA Wrestling, which issues the certification.

We, USA Wrestling Kansas Kids, are now in our 3rd year of, requiring certification to coach in the qualifiers. Predictably, in the past, there were a lot of clinics and opportunities to attend. Now however, the only coaches needing certification, are the ones that are "new" to our program. Thus, the number of clinics, by need, has been drastically reduced.

My suggestion to those with a need to certify:

Check this site for clinic dates and don’t pass up opportunities, anticipating another. All four Districts hold clinics! Too often, coaches will drive a few hours for their wrestlers to attend a tournament but they expect all clinics to be within 30 minutes of the house. And don’t pass on a November or December clinic in your area. It is a bit frustrating when coaches approach us with a frantic need in March when we held a clinic in their own backyard in December.

There have been clinics held in conjunction with the District seeding meetings. But until a clinic is announced, it does not exist. Don’t put yourself in the position of, waiting for a clinic, and being disappointed.

Thanks for your time! Any questions can be sent to me at rhinderliter@usawks.com
