Why do international refs slap at wrestlers' hands during the match while they are hand fighting? Shouldn't they keep their hands off and stay out of the match in that way, what if action was about to happen.

And why the constant verbal warnings (especially when there are so many different languages, wonder if half of the wrestlers even understand)?

I agree and is almost always when a finger lock is used! It would be hard for officials to determine who had the advantage in the fingerlock. Often times it is stopped by a whistle and the official gives a gesture.

As I understand, much as it is in boxing, their are limited warnings or commands the official can give. The commands are often in French!!

As refs we are told to stop finger locks as we see them in order to prevent broken fingers etc. The Verbal warnigs are color first which most wrestlers understand like blue head up or red action followed with universal hand signals. To my understanding it is to take control of the match and make ihave as much action as possible
