I know that this question gets asked every year, but I am just a little too dense to grasp the concept, I guess. If you wrestle one weight all year, and drop for subs, can you take the record w/you? Or if you wrestle up for subs, can it go with you then? One of these days I will comprehend this subject! Any help would be appreciated!!

You can take your records down but not up.

What if you have a kid who has a growth spurt near the end of the year? In the 12 - 14 year weight classes is some prime growing time. Do we really need to encourage "cutting weight." In my opinion those that want to "cut down" to the weight class under what they have been wrestling shouldn't be able to take their record with them.

wrestlingmom, I think that's why I have such a hard time remembering which way this goes. To me, It makes more sense to be able to take it up with you. I agree that its better to maintain than cut weight, but it does happen.

I was looking at the Rules link on this page and found this information:
USAWA-Kansas Kids discourages rapid weight reduction methods under any circumstances. It further believes that rapid weight reduction “cutting weight” through caloric restriction, dehydration, and excessive exercise in heated environments exposes wrestlers to decreased performance, heat related trauma, and hazard to health and life.

Sorry, hit the send button too fast. If this is what USAWA-Kansas Kids discourages why are they restricting kids from moving up in weight classes by not letting them take their record with them into Sub-District seeding? Anyone from USAWKS is invited to enlighten me!

USAWA Kansas Kids does not have a rule regarding seeding of wrestlers.
The decisions are made at the individual District level, and often times are made at the seeding meeting themselves, and may be changed at the seeding meeting. Quite likely, you will find that each sub-district will set differant seeding criteria at the seeding meeting.
In District II, generally the record matters very little, as all present at the particular table are familiar with the wrestlers and know where they should be seeded.

I agree with Richard on this. Generally, you can not take a record "up" with you. Realistically, quality wins against quality opponents, should always be considered.
The goal of seeding is to separate outstanding wrestlers. Having been present at a seeding meeting or two, I think coaches will recognize "quality wins" regardless of what weight or what State they occurred in.
Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?

The purpose of seeding is for the best kid to advance in the tournament and to prevent the best to kids from meeting before the finals... seeding isn't an exact science! But in most cases when coaches know that there is a better wrestler he/she will be seeded higher regardless of record.
Its not over yet...

We do let them take their records up with them in District 2, They don't pull as much weight but they count.
So in your district Jared Hensley two time defending State Champion (22-0) would go into Sub's the last seed because he moved up, so he wouldn't wrestle against his freind and team mate?
