Two spots have opened up for the Predator Wrestling Club Dual Tournament being held this Sunday, February 22nd at Blue Springs South High School. We have competed in several tournaments in Kansas this season and would love to have some Kansas kids come and compete. We are hoping the kids will get anywhere from 4-5 matches in.
The weight classes are as follows:
47, 52, 56, 61, 66, 72, 77, 82, 87, 95, 103, 110, 117, 124, 131, 138, HWT (up to 175)
We were looking to start around 1:00pm and host eight teams. We will wrestle two pools of four and the top two teams in each pool advancing to a four man bracket (top four teams will trophy). It will be an awesome opportunity for kids to be able to compete in a dual tournament, who might not have the chance elsewhere.
If you are interested, you can either e-mail me at predatorwrestle@cs.com, or you can call me at 816-616-4556 or call Danna Gearhart at 816-809-1302.
Thanks,
Mike Gempeler Predator Wrestling Club (MO)

generally these tournaments are independent of age and you look for the oldest or best kid you can find in each weight.

Wow, these duals do exist. I have hoped for a long time that clubs in Kansas would consider having dual tournaments for the kids. What would it take to get this going? I know that we talk about the importance of learning team concepts with the kids and I personally don't think there is a better way to do this than to have dual type tournaments for the kids with a team concept as opposed to a individual concept. Could these tournaments be sanctioned? Are there any clubs that would be open to either participating in or hosting dual tournaments? Another question, what would it take to obtain the support of USA Kansas wrestling for these types of tournaments? Look forward to the discussion on this one.

Wouldn't it be considered a sanctioned event as long as everyone participating has a USA wrestling card?

After thinking about this one of the obvious draw backs would be the financial end of it, but with a dual you would seem to use less workers, and there is the possibility of also charging a few bucks for admission. I think that just for the fun of it though it would be great, not everything has to be about the clubs making money, although the extra $$ is nice for club operation and awards are nice, but if just giving team awards it seems to empower the concept of "team".

You can get with your High School and plan a Duel with another School if you want?
Augusta & Rose Hill have done it a few times.
We will have the coaches prior to the event set up matches then they wrestle before the High School Duel.

Yes, the Pittsburg Wrestling Club has also dueled with other teams as the high school was dueling.

True you don't make much money running a dual, but it really brings out the best of the wrestling "team" aspect. Your team's best at any given weight, and not 130 matches per age group to wait around for. Team trophy's to help instill club pride, rather than just a few really good individuals! Granted wrestling is an individual sport but being on a winning team always feels good as well!

In addition to the duals that JT and Bigpin22 mentioned, in our part of the state we also have another type of dual. It's called middle school wrestling.

We had the opportunity to attend this tournament with a team out of Pittsburg on Sunday and I have to say it was a whole new experience. You see excellent wrestling the whole time with most matches going down to the last few seconds for decision. The "team" attitude was definitely present. Even though my son was not a member of the Pittsburg Wrestling Club, the other wrestlers accepted him like he was. The whole team is mat side the entire round and supporting each wrestler. The only thing that makes it difficult is the possibility of the age difference. Out of 4 matches, he wrestled 3 14 year olds and 1 11 year old...he is 11. But the coaches have the right to scratch them if they think the wrestler could get hurt. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about this type of format to do so. It was a great experience. Congratulations to the Pittsburg Wrestling Club for taking home the championship!!!
