Each week I work with some of my wrestling kids on our wrestling website( WYCOWRESTLING.COM ) and we ran across the idea of kids ranking. This would include ranking the top 3-5 kids in each weight and age. By lookin at a lot of these post people are interested in knowing who are the top kids in a weight/age division. I would like to know what everyone thought about this idea.

Its not over yet...

I'm not positive that at some point in the season that it is not being done already, probably not though. I agree that it would be very interesting for most of us. With a little work you can kind of achieve your own ranking by following the action from some of the bigger tournaments through the year, (Salina, Topeka, Wichita-Park City, etc.).

It would take some work to officially do it in all age and weight groups. Who would commit to doing that? If it was to be done, I would like to see some purpose to it. For example, it could be used to set up the brackets at the State tournament instead of the way we do it now by rotating Districts vs. Districts. Under our current bracket system the top two wrestlers are often on the same side of the bracket, so the wrestler who would probably be second ends up finishing third. So yes I think it would be great if someone or group of people were willing to do it.

I would like to see it happen. Some weights only have a few kids, so it won't matter too much of the rankings. But I think the divisions that have a great number of wrestlers would be a good tool to use. It will help motivate the wrestlers and give them something to work towards....being ranked the top wrestler in their division. Good luck.

If all tournaments would post their results it would make it much easier to get a good idea who was doing well. There have been 10 kids tournaments so far this year and only one, Rose Hill, has posted results. I think it would be neat for the kids and the parents to see the rankings. I think you should go with the top six for each age and weight. This would match up with the six who will medal at state. Good idea!
