i was very diappointed in the whole tourney. I felt like it was unorganized and mis represented. I have alot of bad feelings about the experience and would like any feed back with feeling of others to see if it was just my judgement of if others were upset by the way it was ran.

Sounds like a typical Oklahoma tournament to me.

Here now, don't be like that. I have been to good and bad tournaments in both Oklahoma and Kansas. Example cliff keen = great facility, terrible organization Park city classic = terrible facility, great organization So there are good and bad points to all tournaments.

For the most part, I was satisfied with the tournament. The only beef I have is with the hard luck tournament being a separate tournament unto itself. I agree that more mat time is great for all of the wrestlers, however, rewarding with hardware for going 0-2 in the "Big Dance" then beating out others that went 0-2 in a single elimination tournament is just not fair to those who actually won a match or two before getting beat out. I admit that had my son gone 0-2 it would be very dissappointing to have traveled down for a 2 day tournament for just 2 matches, but to hand out medals to those who win the hard luck tournament doesnt seem right to me. If they would have given a "participation" award to everyone then that would be different. I know that this would be costly to hand out a minimum of 1200 or so medals but then again maybe they need to re-evaluate the hard luck portion of the tournament. Many of the wrestlers that did go 0-2 and got beat out didn't want to try to win a hard luck award and left. Also, running the hard luck tournament after the entire brackets were completed added to the length of time with the tournament (which was plenty long enough as it was. I too agree that those in the hard luck tournament worked hard as well to win in that bracket so both sides of the issue are cloudy at best.

I didn't go this year for obvious reasons, but I will say this, I have never been to better tournaments than Roller tournaments. Cliff Keen Kickoff Classic was always among the toughest in the country due to not being seeded.
Regarding the hard luck tournament. The intent was to guarantee wrestlers more than 2 matches. I have spoken to Jack and Steve about this in the past and the other option would be to let the kids go 0-2 and then home but they wanted to give the kids that wanted it more mat time. Thus the inclusion of the hard luck tourney. With enough complaints I am sure they would go ahead and go back to letting kids go 2 and out.

I don't know what your expectations were or if you have ever been to Tulsa before but it was a great tournament. The numbers were down some, the weighin's were a mess as all big tournaments are, but the wrestling was awesome, and it ran smooth. If you didn't like the hardluck portion you could leave and not wrestle in it. No other national tournament even offers it.
If you want tough competition and great awards this tournament is it. Yea, it's expensive, but it was cheaper on consessions than BigHorn. Another great tournament. What national have you went to that was better? I have not been to any better. Liberty is excellent as well, but there was no seating in the lower gym at Liberty and the ref's were terrible. Bottom line is we can all sit on the sideline and say what is wrong, but Roller always has the toughest competition and the best awards. I have been to nationals in Iowa, KS, MO, CO, WI OK and others and Tulsa year and and year out is the best.
Just my opinion.

My son wrestled 15u/135. All in all a good experience, and typical national level tourney.
PRIORITIES: Great competition, facility, and first aid table/staff (Garret pulled a shoulder muscle, quick and effective care minimized Garret's injury...will recover in another day or two).
Dissappointments: Okay refing (early season rust) and staffing (too many rude, or indifferent staffers, overshadowed the may really nice people).
Irratants: Expensive concessions and poor hospitality policy (can't use the room unless you brought three or more kids). We registered early and specifically confirmed a room at the venue, I later received an email confirmation but failed to note the DoubleTree address. It turned out to be nicer, but it was 20 minutes away.
I think OK provides as good a tourney as we do in KS, or anywhere else for that matter. Yes, you see the occasssional "home field advantage", or even the "greedy", and too often the "rude". BUT I'd want to walk a mile in their shoes, before I would pass any real "judgment" on anyone.
My son and I acheived what we went to accomplish, for a reasonable price, with the typical issues and constraints, surrounded by far more good people than bad. It was a "kick-off"...my son got a read on his national standings and I got a read on my coaching readiness. And, it was good to see everyone again.

I recall that I said the hard luck portion was great for mat time and experience for the kids, however i do not believe in giving a reward for being beat out and that was my only complaint. The length of the tournament was fine for myself and my son, and I was just saying that the hard luck portion could have been run a bit more smoothly. And yes, this was our first time to Kickoff or any one of the Roller production tournaments. These complaints won't deter me or my son from coming again, i just think it needs to be tweaked a bit.

there are some good and bad things in the kickoff. We went there and my son won 6 & under 52 last year and the trophy was broken and i had to buy a new one because they refused to replace it but the tournament was ran beautifully.

We've been attending Rollers tournaments for several years and have no complaints. I didnt see that this year was run any differently than any of the other times we've been there. Our sole purpose of attending is for the competition and that is always provided. The concessions; I honestly think everyone that goes to these events knows how expensive it is going to be at the tournament. It is going to be that way at every "business" ran tournament(as compared to a "club" sponsered event) Go ahead and plan on it so you arent suprised. Take your own Gatorade, Water, etc.. Plan ahead so you can enjoy the competition instead of being agitated about a $2.50 Gaterade. In all I was pleased again with the tournament and will attend the Roller events in the future.
