That last high school match as a senior doesn't have to be your last competitive wrestling match. If you are enrolled at either KSU or KU, they have competitive NCWA Club Teams that you can belong to and have the chance to go win a National Championship. Sign up for one of the teams this Fall, if you are interested in still wrestling.

We also need to get in contact with KU and KSU intramurals about when they do the Wrestling Tournament at each school. That would be a great recruiting tool in my opinion.

Many of you are beginning to move into campus and registering for classes. This is also a good time to sign up for the KU and KSU NCWA Wrestling Clubs at both universities. Richard has provided you with a couple of good sites to pick up information on the clubs.

I attended a meeting this last Saturday 8/13 in Lawrence with Nathan Hartshorne, the KU Wrestling Club president and two former head high school wrestling coaches who are exploring the possibility of helping coaching the team this year. It appears that KU Wrestling Club team will have a full coaching staff this year so this will be a good year to wrestle at KU. Nathan is planning for KU to wrestle a few more meets this year and is hopeful that KU will allow him to host a tournament in Lawrence this year.

KSU has a strong NCWA team and I believe it is adding a couple of accomplished wrestlers this year as it starts its march to a higher finish at Nationals. The KSU Wrestling Club finished 10th at Nationals last year and won the NCWA Southwest Conference tournament. Sign up for this team. You might one day be a contributing member of a National Championship NCWA team.

So Vince let the cat out of the bag… Who might be joining the Club team at KSU? I would like to make an offer to help them out with their competition needs if they would help the Kids Club with their needs. Mainly a little volunteer time with the little guys.

I am going to e-mail you that answer because I am not sure yet if the new wrestler has definitely enrolled yet, so I better be cautious and not post his name at this time. Perhaps you can contact the source and get his permission to post the information.

TCarmona is another wrestler who on the forum has been expressing some interest in the KSU Club team this year.

You are absolutely right Billy! You might throw in scantly clad women in the mix also.

I can just see it now. Swayz and Carmona, cruising around manhattan and hitting on 40 year old chain-smoking divorcees.

Two former high school wrestling coaches Shane Miller and Klint Deere are helping coach the KU Wrestling Club this year. This would be a good opportunity to wrestle for the KU Club this year. If you are a KU student and wrestler who is interested in wrestling this year, sign up for the Club. I can give you the contact information or you can probably get information from the KU Recreation Services site that Richard Salyer put in his 8/5/05 8:34 AM post above in this thread. You can reach me at vlnowak@everestkc.net.

Edited: In the article that Richard Salyer also posted on this thread on KU Sports Clubs, I found this signing up information.

"To sign up your team you can either register online at recreation.ku.edu or in person at Student Recreation Fitness Center, 1740 Watkins Center Drive. Registration will start during the first week of school."

Practices started the first week of October, but it is still not too late to get involved.

Being a KSU grad and a member of the Big Mamma Jammas (winning 5 teams titles at the KSU tourney) and a member of the team for practice purposes I was wondering if Beau Tillman is still the KSU coach. When I left after graduation 2 years ago he was still the coach, I would appreciate any information on his status. I know he finished 4th one year at NWCA nationals and I believe was also a runner-up. The team finished as high as 4th while I was there and I wish them more success in the future.
If you wrestled in high school and went to a school with no team this is the best way to continue your career. I remember Adam Koster wrestling for the team and Seth Lidel from Abilene too, we had some great times and it makes the college life more fun to have some work-out buddies as opposed to drinking buddies (although they aren't all bad either).
I hope KSU and KU too(unfortunately) have great seasons and maybe can convince those administrations to consider the great sport of wrestling as an addition to their sports teams. Nothing sows commitment like success. Just ask Coach Woodford, how else do you get 70 some odd kids to wrestle in a school if you are not successful?
Best of luck and also on a side note. Middle School practice started today here in Sabetha and I am not ashamed to say I was as giddy as a school girl all day!

Actually, it was Bad Mamma Jammas, and they only won one title. The team's true name was inexplicably changed when a certain overweight team captain let a certain skinny punk Frenchman hand in the registration papers. The name was promptly changed back the next year.

As for the T'O'B's/BMJs, they won a total of 4 team titles.

I went to the KU Wrestling Club opener. The KU club looked very good and the wrestlers seemed to really be enjoying themselves wrestling for the KU Club team this year. I would recommend wrestling on these NCWA club teams to any high school wrestler, who is considering attending KU or KSU and possibly Pittsburg State now too. Here is link to the College forum topic on KU's home opener last night.

Currenty Team Kansas has won 3 consecutive intramural team titles after placing 2nd to the T.O.B's 4 years ago.
