I had a brief conversation with former Emporia coach Curtis Simons just after Nathan had defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 103 Bo Noles to get into the semi-finals. Coach Simons filled me in on Nathan's wrestling background which only consisted of TWO YEARS. His main motivation for wrestling was to prepare himself for becomming a Marine. And now he has found himself qualified to wrestle at High School Nationals.
I had the opportunity to visit with Nathan after the photographs were taken and I was very impressed with this young man. It isn't very often that you come across wrestlers who accomplish so much in such short amount of time, and yet are solid and humble young men.
Congratulations Nathan Horn for learning the sport on-the-go and making the most of your short-lived wrestling experience. Truely inspirational and impressive.
