Well today was the first day for practice at Sabetha Middle School and it was great. The smell of the mat cleaner, the sweat, and of course my knee pad made the memories come flooding back. Middle School is great warm-up for me before the High School season and allows me time to get in shape before the "real" season at the High School.
Someimes it seeems that the middle schoolers are overlooked and that is a shame, it is soo much fun! Unlike the high anxiety of the high school season, middle school allows for experimentation and the opportunity to recognize and maybe hone success in the upcoming years. All of you high school wrestlers need to attend a middle school meet and be seen. Those kids look up to and admire all the kids in high school even if you are below average, to them you are heros! Make an effort to mentor or just to talk to those kids because they could be your next practice partner or the next 4 time state champ, you just never know.
So go out and support the middle school and the sport we all love on this forum. It is great to be a wrestler but it is even more important to make sure it continues to generate admiration and love for the sport from the next generation!
Sincerely Coach Jason Brown
Head Wrestling Coach at Sabetha High and Middle School
p.s. Best of luck to all Big 7 middle school programs!
