The Wichita Classic starts on Friday March 4th. Buhler Kansas is a community about 35 miles west of Wichita and the host of the third benefit clinic for Tyler Graebner. We recognize that many top notch college wrestlers and coaches will be at the national championships that weekend. We are therefore seeking all wrestlers and coaches on both a college and high school level to help with this clinic that is not in attendance at the NCAA's. We are wanting to feature as much as possible High School State Champions and even are seeking to have between 2 and 5 challenge matches between high school state champions from different divisions and different states including Oklahoma and Missouri. There may also be a chance for some wrestlers to wrestle out of their division, for example an top notch 8th grader against a high school wrestler, or a high school wrestler against a college wrestler. This is a non sanctioned event for charity so anything goes. Please help spread the word on the clinic and challenge matches. If interested in helping coach the clinic or wrestle a challenge match against an in state wrestler or an out of state wrestler please let me know. This could be something great. As usual the cost of the clinic will be $10 with all of the proceeds going to help with Tyler's medical costs. There will also be numerous autographed items available for auction. Feel free to email or call for more information.

Regarding the challenge matches, who would you like to see participate in this, it could be in state kids against out of state kids or in state wrestlers against wrestlers in a different division. Any thoughts? Hope to have a packed house for Tyler. In that this event is after the High School season there should be no problems with attending and participating. This is the chance for the high school community to step up and help a young man who loves the sport.

These would make great match ups.

Tom Petterman Vs. Charlie Knox (one for old times sake)

Danny DeShazer Vs. Tristan DeShazer

Eric Akin Vs. Kenny Taylor Jr.

I can also think of several top 8th graders that I would like to see challenge placers at high school state. Wow this could be so much fun if people come through.

It would also be great to have a Greco & Freestyle exhibition match or demonstration. Coach Peterman, think you could work something out with that?

There are so many others like Altman, Metzler, Ely, Sponzel, Cornejo, Grater, and the list just keeps on going.

Just received information that individuals not having USA cards will still be able to participate in the clinic, especially high school and others. We will require the purchase of a temporary USA Insurance card which will cost an additional $5. This is still pretty good in that out of $15, $10 will go to Tyler and $5 to pay for the insurance per wrestler. If you already are a member of USA Wrestling, there will be no additional charge outside of the $10 per wrestler, all of which will go to Tyler's educational fund. High Schools and clubs should start receiving information on this, please post and promote within your schools.

I will also be contacting individuals qualifying for State regarding possible match-ups for the challenge matches. Others interested please contact me. We are also requesting certified officials to donate their time to officiate the matches.

I don't know if I'll be able to get this match organized but I'm going to try to contact both Waylon Lowe (3x DII National Champ) and Shawn Silvis (2xDII National Champ and 1x RU) to meet up for round #3. Silvis beat Lowe at the MW Regionals last year but fell to him in the National finals. I know I would love to see it.

I wish I could make it down but I have to work today, didn't know you wanted us old farts to go at it again. I'm way out of shape so Charlie would probably get me, cause I don't think he is ever out of shape.
He has always been my ruler for me to check on my abilities. I am so thankful to have such a great competitor/opponent in Coach Knox. He's a team mate, friend, and great person to be associated with.
We'll definitely hook up again on the mat to go at it,
sorry can't do it for such a great cause, Good Luck with the clinic and matches.

No problem coach, I know that Coach Knox is in church tonight. I hope that the DeShazer's remember to show up because that will be a great one. We will hopefully have something set up for later in the year when it is possible for everyone to come down.

Great to see things went well by the other post on here. Sounds like the tag team deal was quite a hoot. Your doing some great things down there Mike. Thank you from myself and I am proud to tell others of the great work you do. It just makes me proud to be a Kansas wrestler. Animals on the mat and gentlemen off. Doing not just the right things but good things to help each other.

Coach Peterman thanks for the kind words. I can't speak highly enough of you and the work you have done. I know this, I can tell a lot about a coach from watching him on the sidelines as well as in the practice room. I am so thrilled that you are going to hopefully be working with my son this summer. I also know that it isn't what "I" have done, it is what "WE" have done. For those on the outside looking in, come on in and join.

I am so grateful to Tyler and his family for encouraging and motivating all of us. Believe me, I am as guilty of needing that as anyone. I just decided to do something about it but there are so many from Kobi Williams, to Cindy Page, and from Aaron Sweazy to Eric Akin, and I could keep on naming names, names of literally hundreds of Kansans that have had a part in all of this. The real hero is Tyler.

Truth is we had people like Aaron reminding us of our need to help people with cancer long before Tyler. It is just that Tyler is a small child that we can all appreciate and love because he is a child. He has become the reminder that people like Aaron, Tyler, and the gentleman I spoke to last night who lost his wife last year to cancer have needed for some time. They shouldn't have to carry the weight on their backs to be the reminder of the family that we should be, but unfortunately they are. When we hide them from our view, we don’t speak very highly of the heart of humanity. I have been told about people who don’t want to be around these individuals because they remind them of death. How selfish! We can all have a part in bettering someone’s life, especially the life of someone going through pain. Truth is, that I am the one who is better and so are those others who have made sacrifices to help out. That is what Tyler has come to represent, people coming together to support someone like a wrestler with cancer, maybe a wrestler who has a parent die, a coach who has a sister killed in a car wreck by a drunk driver, or a child who has just witnessed their father and mother die in a horrible action. The lessons they have provided are only valuable because somewhere along the journey, those of us who are well, and without difficulty have forgotten about the importance of family.

Believe me, the journey is not over, I know all too well that fact. I hear about how people can’t or shouldn’t help every day. I hear about how people are tired of hearing about this little boy. It is those people I feel sorry for, not the ones who is carrying the pain and hurt. I guess I have turned this into a sermon and didn’t intend to, but coach, it really is a lot more doing things than just me. It is people like you who are going out of their way to promote wrestling for our kids. You then see to it that they become fine human beings, not just fine wrestlers. I hope that people like Swayz, Tyler and others can keep that concept fresh within all our hearts without paying too high of a price.
