I hope that Kansas continues to support this event by putting at least one team together. This is a unique opportunity to wrestle in a freestyle dual team tournament against some of the toughest wrestlers in the midwest. The teams will be pooled and then wrestle out to true finishes.

This might be a good opportunity since no one is hosting a tournament in Kansas that weekend.

Chief: I know of at least one young cadet that asked to be on the team at 160 since day one. I realize he is young and may not have the credentials of the others you’ve been trying to get. He did however win the Kansas Triple Crown last year, won folk style state the last two years, won brute this year, and went 7-1 at middle school duals this year. What do you have to do to be considered?

The four that I've listed above are High School champions or placers: Ryan Patterson - 44-0 - State Champion Kyle Allen - 33-1 - State Champion Judd Schroeder - 35-1 - 2nd Place Sam Thoman - 37-4 - 3rd Place I am starting with those guys and work down from there. Have you contacted Scott Fausset about the other Kansas team? Let me know if you need any other info. - Eric Johnson

I also know that Cokely and some others are afraid that he will get hurt because he doesn't have high school experience. That may be the case but what's he supposed to do because he's such a young cadet? Not wrestle free style and greco until after a couple years of high school?

John,
I wouldn't be worried that he'd get hurt. I am just filling the team from the top down. Junior champions obviously have priority over middle school champions. We had a 160 that had to back out, so I started the search again. Cameron Riojas was an All-American at Fargo and we are glad to have him at 160. With the potential that Camron has, I would encourage him to wrestle throughout the summer. There are plenty of opportunities. These type of events turn out to be exclusive due to the limits on the rosters. I wish the best for Camron and look forward to following him in High School.

Looks like a great event, wish I could be there. A special thanks to all of the guys getting this together. A reminder to the coaches. The Virtual Pew, the Ministry I work with, with some work towards wrestling is providing the scholarship for those who summer wrestle. All of the wrestlers in any events, at any level can qualify for these scholarships. Judging will consist of a panel of judges from across the country, I am not involved in any way in the judging. So far we have only 3 applications for the first place $150, 2nd $100, and 3rd $50. The rules and information is posted on other posts here at the forums.
Obviously, all of the people putting this together have an interest for Kansas Wrestling, please help pass along the information on the scholarships.
BTW a special thanks to Chief, I won't go into detail here but you have really gone out of your way to bless the boys. I know that won't go unnoticed and hope the wrestlers wrestling with the team are among the first to thank you for all you are doing for them.

You are most welcome sir. Sean McCarthy has done more than I, and KCWC pres is footing the bill. Also Gonz, Akin, and numerous others work a lot of hours with our kids too.
But I gotta tell ya... Chief and I scrapped for signing rights to kids. I had him on the ropes, but his round-house in the last round caught me by surprise, right upside my head. I am still a little droggy (that's nothing unusual), but recovering. He's pretty tough...I won't ever tick him off again...that's for sure!
PS: The Tourney Director said I could add subtract or move wrestlers until after weighins. Sean, teams blue/red, and I would welcome anyone who wants to fill an open spot.

It was all in good fun Scott. I'm glad you had your headgear on. I'm also watching out for the re-shot.
I know that Scott and I, as well as everyone involved are excited to take 45 Kansas kids to compete against Missouri!
See you guys Saturday morning,
Eric

My doc warned me against that kind of so called "fun", with or without headgear.
My ex said that's what I get for running my mouth...and asked what a re-shot was.
BUT, Superman said you better cut that out,"pickin on fat old bald guys".

A rumor has it that there are two wrestlers with the initials R.C.and P.M that will be wrestling for a Missouri team. Please take it easy on them, for they are good Kansas boys.

Here is the roster for the Tiger Pit team from MO: posted on the MO forum
98 - open (possible fill from Nebraska) 105 - open (possible fill from Purler) 112 - Colby Skaggs 119 - Mason Heard 125 - Tyler Lathern 130 - open (need help here) 135 - Cody McDonald 140 - Eric Carfall 145 - open (need help here) 152 - Kyle Meyer 160 - Jacob Gurnsey 171 - Devin Golden/Trevor Danford 189 - Spenser Daniels 215 - Ryan Herda 275 - Mullins
We could certainly use a couple of good wrestlers at 130 and 145. Lost ours due to injuries. Any takers??? I am fairly sure the 98 and 105 are filled.

It looks like each team will wrestle 5 Duals. With two 5 team pools, they will get 4 in their pool and then wrestle straight across for placings.

Just got back from the Duals!
Team Kansas wrestled their hearts out and finished 2nd out of 10 teams! In pool A competition, Team Kansas went 4-0 to make the Championship final against Team Victory from Missouri.
Dual Match scores:
Rd 1 - Team Kansas 40 Team Spartan 23 Rd 2 - Team Kansas 45 Tiger Pit 18 Rd 3 - Team Kansas 46 KC Matside Blue 12 Rd 4 - Team Kansas 43 Team Central - Park Hill 23
That put us in the Final against the winner of Pool B.
Final - Victory 38 Team Kansas 26
I want to thank all of the wrestlers and their parents for making the commitment to represent their State.
There were 4 Kansas kids who went undefeated in the team duals and two that won another match to claim the individual championship at their weight!
Duals:
112 - Nathan Furches - 4-0 119 - Nathan McCormick - 5-0 125 - Jake Tanenbaum - 5-0 140 - Aldon Isenberg - 5-0
Individual Champions -
112 - Nathan Furches - 5-0 125 - Jake Tanenbaum - 6-0

A great day! The tournament staff put on a good tourney. Top quality participants, great mat time, and great fun. Plus, I got to meet some great people...especially Mr Giesen and Slade.
A big "THANKS" to: KCWC (Gunner Waugh) for paying the bill, Sean McCarthy for organizing our teams and coaching Blue, and Akin/Madl for helping me coach Red.
While all three Kansas teams represented us well, KC Matside Red Team inspired me. These guys showed true grit. We were thin and the competition was tough, but we kept a positive attitude, showed some great sportmanship, and really got scrappy. Throughout the day, I heard soo many compliments on our wrestlers. Not just their athleticism, but great attitudes too.
"Great job guys": Parker Madl, Sergio Salazar, Tony Livengood, Eric Grant, Patrick Cervantes, Jake Akin, and Slade Giesen. A special "thank you" to Tony Livengood; helped out and led by example.
