It looks good for our Cadets in the Consolation bracket. We have to make it to the finals of the bracket to preserve our 7 year streak of placing in the top 10 in Greco. After Iowa, it looks like Oklahoma and then a very tough semi-final against New Jersey.
I know it's looking ahead, but here is a scouting report on NJ:
105 - Sean Boylan - 2nd Place HS State at 103. Lost to Cagnina. 112 - Frank Cagnina - State Champion at 103. 119 - Taylor Walsh - 2nd at NE Cadet GR Regional. 125 - Chris Villalonga - 06 Cadet FS National runner-up. 130 - Austin Orsmbee - NE Cadet Regional Champion GR 135 - Jesse Shanaman - 3rd at NE GR regional. 140 - John Guzzo - NE Cadet Regional Champion 145 - Brandon Rolnick - 05 Liberty Nationals Champion. 3rd at GR Nationals. 152 - Preston Keiffen - NE Regional Greco Champion. 160 - Steven Santos - HS State Champion. 35 wins. 171 - Zach Agostino - NE Regional GR Champion. 189 - Bryan Sternlieb - 2nd at State. 215 - Josh Davis - 3rd at NE Regional. HWT - Danny Walker - NE Regional Champion.

Two Kansas kids stood out in the NJ duel...
112 - Ryne Cokeley - Frank Cagnina from NJ was undefeated in the tournament and is ranked 3rd Nationally. He was a HS State Champion as a freshman. He had previously beat Alan Waters from MO, two times. Great win Ryne! This incoming freshman will be a force in Kansas next year!
145 - Chris Watson is a newcomer to Kansas and had already made a giant splash by placing 2nd at HS State this last year. His victory over Brandon Rolnick from NJ was the most impressive match that I have seen this weekend. After losing the 1st period 2-5, Chris executed an amazing 5 point throw in the 2nd and won the 3rd period 4-1. Rolnick is one of the outstanding Cadets in the nation. He was a 7X All American and 2004 National Greco Champion.
Amazing efforts from Ryne and Chris!

145 - Chris Watson is a newcomer to Kansas and had already made a giant splash by winning HS State this last year. Chris Watson wrestled for several years as a youth at the Wichita Wrestling Club prior to his family relocating to the Kansas City area. Chris returned to the Wichita area prior to the 2006-2007 school year. This past year Chris placed second at the 4A High School State Tournamentat 140 lbs. Chris did win a USAW Kansas Kids State Championship this past year in a very competitive 145 lb. weight classification. Chris is an outstanding young man showing great character and leadership. Chris and his father Dean are two of the MANY examples of the great people involved in Kansas wrestling.
