It is hard to get anything going against any Schlatter. They are both great counter wrestlers and never get out of position. We had a HUGE win at 184. Talk about an exciting match. Jensen has been wrestling out of his mind as of late. We needed Dieffenbach and Mason to wrestle a little better. They did not seem to have it going. No offense. I think they will get it together in the next couple of weeks to be firing on all cylenders.

Release: 02/08/2008

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 3 Oklahoma State wrestling team improved to 14-2-1 overall this season with a 33-3 win over Oregon at McArthur Court Friday. The win improved the Cowboys to 15-0-0 all-time against the Ducks.

Top-ranked 133-pounder Coleman Scott was stunned by unranked Ryan Dunn, whose takedown with three seconds remaining in the third period fueled the 5-3 upset. The Cowboys return to action at 2 p.m. Sunday when they face UC Davis at the Pavilion in Davis, Calif. The dual will be broadcast live on 93.7 KSPI FM radio in Stillwater and worldwide via the internet at http://www.okstate.com.

With the win, OSU has won 15 or more duals in seven of the last eight seasons under coach John Smith.

The Cowboys return to action when they host Cal Poly at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16 in Gallagher-Iba Arena. That dual will mark the final regular-season home dual of the year and the last time seniors Coleman Scott and Nathan Morgan, among others, will wrestle in a dual in front of the Oklahoma State fans.

Erisman dominated the first period with an early takedown followed immediately by a two-point nearfall, then a second two-point nearfall to go up 6-0. Erisman started the second period in the down position and scored an escape for the only point of the period. With Maraglia electing to start the third period in the neutral position, Erisman took him down one more time and added a riding time point.

Three Pins Lift No. 3 Cowboys Over Cal Poly, 36-6
Courtesy: okstate.com
Release: 02/16/2008

STILLWATER, Okla. – Jake Dieffenbach, Clayton Foster and Jared Rosholt recorded falls that lifted No. 3 Oklahoma State to a 36-6 win over Cal Poly Saturday in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Brandon Mason added a 17-0 technical fall and Jack Jensen scored a 10-2 major decision that also figured prominently in the Cowboy victory.

On a day when Oklahoma State’s nine seniors were honored prior to the match, three-time All-American Coleman Scott claimed a 6-0 win over Boris Novachkov. The premier match of the day came at 141 pounds where top-ranked Chad Mendes of Cal Poly scored the decisive takedown with 10 seconds remaining to defeat No. 2 Nathan Morgan, 4-3.

The Cowboys return to action Thursday when they face No. 17 Oklahoma in Norman at 7 p.m.

No. 3 Oklahoma State 36, Cal Poly 6

125 pounds: No. 14 Tyler Shinn (OSU) dec. Micah Ferguson (CP); 3-1
133 pounds: No. 1 Coleman Scott (OSU) dec. Boris Novachkov (CP); 6-0
141 pounds: No. 1 Chad Mendes (CP) dec. No. 2 Nathan Morgan (OSU); 4-3
149 pounds: Ryan Freeman (OSU) dec. Eric Maldonado (CP); 7-1
157 pounds: No. 14 Chase Pami (CP) dec. Neil Erisman (OSU); 7-5
165 pounds: No. 5 Jake Dieffenbach (OSU) fall Ryan Williams (CP); 6:09
174 pounds: No. 8 Brandon Mason (OSU) tech. fall Mike Williams (CP); 17-0, 2:27
184 pounds: Jack Jensen (OSU) maj. dec. Ernie Varela (CP); 10-2
197 pounds: Clayton Foster (OSU) fall Arturo Basulto (CP); 4:08
285 pounds: No. 8 Jared Rosholt (OSU) fall Jim Powers (CP); 2:17

141 pounds: The most anticipated match of the night came when No. 2 Nathan Morgan faced No. 1 Chad Mendes and the match didn’t disappoint. After a scoreless first period, Mendes chose down to start the second and was cut loose immediately. Morgan then took Mendes to his back for a takedown, but wasn’t able to keep him there long enough for any near fall points. Mendes eventually escaped to tie the match at 2-2. In the third period, Morgan escaped with 1:43 remaining to take control of the match, but Mendes answered with a takedown with only 10 seconds remaining to steal a 4-3 decision.

157 pounds: Neil Erisman put up a strong fight against 14 Chase Pami, but came up on the short end of a 7-5 decision. A Pami takedown followed by an Erisman escape brought the score to 2-1 at the end of the first period. Pami had an escape and a takedown in the second period to build his lead to 5-1. In the final period, Erisman recorded an escape with 1:37 remaining and took Pami down with 1:05 left on the clock to cut Pami’s lead to 5-4. A Pami penalty with 49 seconds left tied the match at 5-5, but Pami had already built up a riding time advantage, so Erisman was forced to cut him loose with 47 ticks remaining with the hopes of scoring a late takedown to win the match. Sure enough, Erisman stormed in for a takedown that he nearly recorded before time expired, but Pami was saved by the clock and held on for the 7-5 victory.
