This years Kids Nationals Tournament is being held in Orem, UT. I am proud to announce that Cody Phippen will be this years KS Team Leader.

We are currently making arrangements for the team trip to take place in July. Here is the Nationals link:
http://www.themat.com/eventfliers/2008/2008KidsNationals.pdf

Any wrestler who registered to compete in the Southern Plains tournament from the Schoolboy down is eligible (there are 58 of you).

We will use this talk forum and also be contacting those of you who are eligible to see if you would like to make the trip this year. This is the second year we have made a KS effort in taking a team to Nationals, last year we had 16 wrestlers and I know we have alot more experience this year to field a better team.

I would be happy to answer any questions regarding the trip and I can get you in contact with Coach Phippen to join the team.

Great job at Regionals and lets get em at Nationals!

thanks Kyle

What are the rates for the hotel rooms the team has reserved and are they close enough to walk to the venue like we did in Wisconsin?

Hunter and I are interested in going. I looked at plane tickets today, flights are round trip about 305 and up. Please let me know ASAP. Our new house is 15 minutes from the MCI airport , if price is going to be close we will take a plane.

You can wrestle a different weight if needed.

You have to wrestle the same weight or a higher weight than what you wrestled at Southern Plains when you go to Nationals in Utah. You cannot move down from the weight you wrestled at the regional. At least that is the way it has been done in the past. They could have changed it for this year.

Mike and Will are both correct. Eric can wrestle at 190 in Utah, and when he wins both styles he would still qualify for the triple crown with his win at 210 in folkstyle.

I apologize for the typo on my first post. Travis Phippen is the team leader, although Cody could probably teach us a few things!!

Looks like we have 3 wrestlers confirmed for the trip already.

I can drive an economical car and fit 2 other wrestlers with Hunter and I if they would like to travel from the northeast Kansas or Northwest Missouri area. I figured our Honda would cost about 250-300 in gas for the round trip. Travelodge of Provo- 6 miles from the venue called and offered 77 dollars a night with a breakfast and a pool.

Jeff,
I don't imagine it will cost that much for Ks wrestlers. Last year they only paid $250 for travel, motel, and gear. This year should be the same if not less.

I thought you were interested in helping drive a van?

I am trying to get a head count for rooms and travel arrangements. Please send me an e-mail at trav_phippen@yahoo.com or call me at 913-669-4016 letting me know if your child is planning on attending the tournament or not. The team plans on traveling in vans for the tournament. I appreciate everyones help by letting me know if they plan on attending or are unable to.

Thanks,

Jeff,
Will said he spoke to you at the duals this weekend. You will need to show them a copy of your drivers license. All other paperwork will be taken care of.

Thanks

Scanlan, Cone, Mason capture USA Wrestling Triple Crowns
Craig Sesker USA Wrestling
07/04/2008

OREM, Utah – Iowa’s Joe Scanlan became USA Wrestling’s first 2008 Triple Crown winner on Friday.

Scanlan claimed the 175-pound Schoolboy championship in freestyle to clinch his coveted Triple Crown on Friday afternoon at Utah Valley University’s McKay Events Center. Scanlan swept Utah’s Andrew DuBose 6-0, 3-0 in the finals.

A short time later, Wisconsin’s Ryan Cone won a Triple Crown of his own. Cone completed his Triple Crown by winning the Schoolboy National title in freestyle at 152 pounds. Cone rallied past runner-up Matt Reed of Kansas 2-6, 1-0, 4-3. . Eric Mason of Kansas also became a Triple Crown winner in the Schoolboy class at 210.

Triple Crowns are being won this weekend during the USA Wrestling Kids National Freestyle and Greco-Roman Championships. A number of wrestlers are still eligible to win Triple Crowns during the final day of the tournament on Saturday.

This is the final event in the quest for the 2008 USA Wrestling Kids Triple Crown. Each year, USA Wrestling honors athletes who are able to win national titles at their age-level in all three styles: folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle.

The nation’s best 9-14 year old wrestlers are battling for national titles and All-American honors in three age-divisions: Midget (9-10), Novice (11-12) and Schoolboy/girl (13-14).

Scanlan, Cone and Mason won Schoolboy National titles in Greco-Roman on Thursday. They each won Schoolboy National titles in folkstyle in April in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Competition is scheduled to resume on Saturday at 9 a.m. Mountain Time.
