Coach Ed -- do infrared heating systems like the ones shown at the links below really 'work' to help one save money on their heating bill?

My KPL bill this month was 376 bucks! I have never had that high of bill and I am looking for ways to lower it.

Here is what one person said about these type of heaters -- is this guy correct?

Has anyone used a sunheat infra red heating system ?
1 day sale coming soon here.is this a gimmick or a reputable product that saves energy and does what the manufacturer claims?

heating with electricity costs the same for all heaters regardless of design or cost. all electric heaters are 100% efficient. it is a gimmick! replacing quartz bulbs on such a heater might be costly.
quartz heaters with exposed bulbs can work better if you let the light shine on you & heats u directly.your sunheat seems to be enclosed. seen those things go for $300! buys a lot of electricity when a $20 heater will be as efficient.
theres about 3100 btu in a kw of electric no matter how you burn it.

And, here are two sites that show this type of heater:

I ask you Ed - gimmicks that are a waste of money or what?

Thanks a bunch.

Whoops. Silly me. I'm still wondering about the above heaters, but I forget that KPL split or whatever they did.

Westar Energy - 376 bucks (electric i assume)

Kansas Gas - 46 bucks

So, I guess use my ceiling fans more. Turn my thermostat up a bit. Maybe that will help with the cooling (electric).

Hopefully the Gas want be too big of nightmare come winter... Yeah right!

The fact that the system runs on 120 volts raises alot of questions. I personally have not heard of anyone using this system and the power source bothers me. Also there claim that it would heat the environment upto I yhink 2 degrees just means it is going to run all the time. Heat still rises and the heat transfer is still from hot to cold so I think it is kind of Iffy.

I lived in a basement room in college that used a original suntwin unit like you described. It heated up the basement where i stayed very well. It is basically a couple of infrared lights, mirrors and fan with a thermostat . It did cut down on my bill immensely. I know that the design was sold by the original company a few years back and that they were shoddy for a while. I heard the orginal company is back making them now

Klint and Ed -- thank you very much for your replies. I think due to the fact that I also need to shell out 15 grand for a new roof in about about a month - I'll just wear double sweats for the next decade!
