The link above will open the brackets in a PDF file.

A brief glance at the brackets indicates:

Brandon Goodwin (Lawrence) participated in the 125 lb. bracket.

Nick Flynn (Lansing) at 149 lbs. and brother Sean at 157 lbs.

Jameon Rush (Clay Center), and Ross Taplin (Abilene) participated in the 174 lb. bracket, with Taplin winning the weight classification.

Matt Baker (SME) and Scott Elliott (Ark City) participated in the 184 lb. bracket.

Former Kansan Elijah Madison won the 285 lb. classification.

Great showing by some Kansans at Frost Area (it was 23 degrees outside with the Jacks and Illinois State playing football in the snow).

Here are the guys I got to watch:

125lbs - Brandon Goodwin, Dakota Wesleyan (Lawrence). Brandon had some tuff scrapes and looked like he put on some weight since the last time I saw him.

149lbs - Nick Flynn, South Dakota State University (SDSU) (Lansing). Nick looked solid going 4-1 collecting two pins. Droped his second round match and fought a good fight through the back side to the medal rounds.

157 - Sean Flynn, SDSU (Lansing). Sean went 4-1 and looked good. Like his brother, lost the second round and improved throughout the day to the 5/6th Medal match.

174 - Ross Taplin, University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO)(Abilene). Ross owned his weight bracket pinning his ways through the championship. Wow!

184 - Scott Elliot, SDSU (Ark City). Scott went 3-1 earning third place collecting his first college pin along the way. Think Scott may drop to 174 in a week or two. Solid wrestling.

185 - Matt Baker, UNO (Shawnee Mission East). Matt pinned his first opponent than dropped his second match. Great performance through the backside to the 5/6th medal match.

Great tournament and well run until it was announced that the back side medal matches would not be wrestled at 5:00 p.m. because of a scheduled volleyball game. Lots of disappointed wrestlers and fans.

Team wise University of Nebraska Omaha was solid as was Iowa Central. SDSU also put on a good team showing and looks much improved from last year.

Mr. Flynn
Sorry I did not get a chance to talk with you at the tournament. I guess i was trying to focus on my matches. I didnt wrestle te best, i dont know what it was, I guess i was still a bit rusty from last year. I did however get to see nick numerous times. He looked great, and i was anticipating his final match against Hutcheson. I believe that would have been a great match. I didnt get to see much of sean though. Hopefully I see your boys at the DWU open this weekend. Are You making the trip up?

Brandon,

Don't think we will make it to Iowa.

You looked good, don't be so hard on yourself. Now that you got the cobwebs out, let it go on the mat and have some fun. Good luck next week.
