Mark Stovall has arranged for the use of the Heskett Center at Wichita State University for a Freestyle and Greco Tournament on May 16, 2009.
Permission was granted today and details will follow. The plan is for all proceeds to benefit the WSU NCWA Wrestling Team.

Thanks Richard...you spoiled my thunder...We are sooo excited about this opportunity...this tourney can do a lot of things for wrestling...
1. Another FS/GR tourney in the center of the state. 2. A chance for Circle folks to practice before the state tourney. 3. An opportunity for folks to see that WSU has wrestling and they are serious about it. This could grow into an opportunity for both our men and women of Kansas Wrestling to stay in our state and wrestle. 4. This tourney will help to make funds for the WSU team for next season. 5. There is more but I am so excited I have to stop and breathe...I will write more later.
GO KS Wrestling....lets all get behind this tourney and show WSU that we care about their program.

The WSU FS/GR tourney is shaping up. It is now on trackwrestling.com so you can start signing up. We have checked out the Heskett Center...thanks to Steven Foster and Richard Salyer and it has more then amble space for this tourney and even larger. There may be some seating issues so for those baseball and softball fans...bring your folding chairs...just in case...there will be lots of places to set up your chairs. We will also provide a map and directions and it is a little tricky to get into the building. Keep on eye on the talk forum and we will post updates as we go. We passed out flyers at the Womens Body Bar Nationals this weekend and hope to get some extra girls and guys from out of state. Looks to be a clas event. If you have questions...email me at whywrestling@yahoo.com or call me at 316-990-8914.
Thanks and remember this is to support the WSU NWCA College team so lets all come out and have a great day.

Ooops I forgot...that is also the last weekend of The Wichita River Festival and they have all kinds of things that weekend and fireworks on Saturday night so you might want to make it a weekend in Wichita.
If you are a girl freestyler...we will have a Kansas Krusaders practice on Sunday at NW HS at noon...so make your plans now.

Ok we have made a few changes for the tourney at WSU this Saturday. We are going to do only online registration in order to be more efficient on Saturday. Here are the rules for signing up.
Modifications to WSU Tournament Registration opens May 1, 2009 Registration closes Friday May 15, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Friday night weigh in 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Satellite Weigh-Ins are allowed The Head Coach or Club President must be in attendance and view each wrestlers Weigh-In Exact weights must be emailed to steven.foster31@yahoo.com by 8:30 p.m on Friday May 15, 2009 In the event that a wrestlers weight is challenged the following procedure will be utilized. Challenge must occur within one hour of the start of wrestling A wrestler must be within 2% of the highest allowable weight in the grouping NO Saturday Weigh-In or Registration.
We are encouraging home weigh ins...you can weigh in at your practice on Thursday night...if you get your wrestlers weighed in early then send in on to Steven and he will get them going in the computer.
We will not be allowed to sell concessions but they will allow you to bring in food and coolers. This is great for the spectators but not so good for the fundraiser for WSU. Coach Stovall will have WSU T shirts and hats for sale at the tourney. Please purchase some WSU items so we can help to raise some money for the college program next year.
We are expecting a great turnout and look forward to seeing everyone at the Heskett Center at WSU.
If you have questions, you can email me at whywrestling@yahoo.com or call my cell at 316-990-8914.
Coach Ed will be the tournament director as I will be out of town that day. I know I will miss all the fun. His cell is 316-259-5399.
Email all entry questions to Steven Foster at the above email address as he will be only available by email.
Thanks and we will see you Saturday.
Remember we have girls brackets and open brackets so you old guys in college can come out and wrestle too.

If anyone is planning to do a satellite weigh in...please post your info so anyone needing to weigh can go to your location...I am talking to a Lady in Colby and I bet she would welcome other wrestlers...I have a location secured in Fredonia...I need others...please post.
Also if there is anyone that would be willing to help out with the tourney...please call or email me and I will put you to work.
Once again...we will be donating all the proceeds to this tourney to Coach Stovall and the WSU Team. We will not be able to sell concessions but you will be able to bring in your own coolers, this will save you money and there are plenty of restaurants close by...please shop for the Shocker wrestling wear at the tourney to help out the college team.

Thanks Kit!
Also if there are any people that could help Jarrett and Coach Ed on Thursday get mats...they could REALLY use some help...they need to go get mats in McPherson and Wellington, as both of these towns have graciously volunteered their mats for us. Unfortunately, no one in Wichita or the surrounding areas would let us use their mats. They need to get these on Thursday evening and then store them and set them up on Friday night at 9pm at WSU and then we will need some help getting them back to their schools. If anyone can help...call Coach Ed at 316-259-5399. Coach Ed is getting worried about getting enough help and we are donating all the money the tourney makes to WSU to help their program so if you can help out Coach Ed...he would really appreciate it. I am out of town all week and I think it is getting to him that this is all on him.
Thanks for your help in advance...not trying to whine but we really need some help.

Coach Ed, I'll have the truck and trailer dropped off at your house no later than 2:00pm on Thursday afternoon. Daughter has softball games that night, so I can't help Thursday. I'll be able to help set up on Friday night though, let me know where we will meet to head out there.

When I registered Levi on Trackwrestling, the age groups come up Kids2, Open, and women's. I assume the kids 2 takes in everything from schoolboy down to midget/bantam, and open is cadets and above?

It's a go and we are now up at the weigh ins at NW HS at 13th and Tyler or you can still do a home weigh in at email it to Steven Foster at steven.foster31@yahoo.com.
The tornado slowed the weigh down a bit but we used our wrestler's mentality and now it is on.
Well I didn't...I am still in Edmond...lol
Ms Jenni
It is sunny here btw...

Well the first annual WSU FS/GR Tourney is officially over...and I missed the whole thing.
This is my observations from talking and texting everybody all day and listening to Coach Ed for the last three hours.
Overall, the tourney was a success. We had 175 wrestlers. We ran matches for 160 Greco wrestlers and 175 for FS. We did this from 11am to 6pm. We started late because we had 45 walk ups and went ahead and worked them in...because that is what FS/GR has always been about and we wanted to let them wrestle. Plus they paid and that made WSU more money...I know money didn't hurt.
We had some trackwrestling issues...as usual but we had some great brackets and matches and Greco was a little slow but then Coach Ed went "old school" and we went to calling out first available mats and FS clipped right along. Steven Foster did a good job with trackwrestling...first time with the FS bracketing but now we are ready for the state tourney. Overall, a success. Steven got the kids a lot of matches...some got 9 matches in that day.
The venue was AWESOME...everyone loved it...we could run a dual format tourney there easy...even better than the KC Cadet Duals venue. The issues? NO CONCESSIONS!!!!!!! NOT OUR FAULT..but a definite detraction...Coach Ed said if we could of kept everyone full it would have really helped overall. The WSU has some kind of no compete clause and we would have loved to sell food...but it was not to be. Seating was adequate...everyone could have brought their own chairs and it would have been even cooler.
WSU shirts and sweatshirts were a success...I don't know how many Ms.Pam sold...but it was a lot. People really took an interest in the program.
Officials were excellent...not complaints...that tall Edison boy was SOOOOO much help. Jarrett helped his dad all week with the details of the tourney...hauled all the mats and drove the gigantic truck and trailer that the Ecks let us use expertly...just ask him...then he officiated ALL Day and then took all the mats back home. The Ecks went along too and my girls. Overall the Edisons and Ecks really did what it took to make this tourney happen.
These people from WHY Wrestling and Kansas Krusaders and all around, all played a huge role in pulling this off. Kyle Roberts was invaluable --he helped all day in various aspects...thanks. Lindlar Family-BC/NW Moore Family-BC Eck Family- Doug and Dal and boys - Brawlers Keith Family-BC Shoaf Family from Fredonia-which came up ONLY to help because Kaylee had surgery this week and couldn't wrestle...that is a wrestling family for ya! Mr Ball-Kaleb's Dad Lannings from MAC Gonsalves Family from Clearwater Tony Condella from Augusta Zeiglers - BC Jeff and Chase Moses for working tables out of the goodness of their hearts. Keplars from Team Outlaws and the "King of the Old School"---Big Shout out to little Keplar that broke his arm Saturday....get better fast. Brooke Bogren---KS own Women's 2x Nat'l Champ and Coach for the Kansas Krusaders Pam and Darick Jones - NW Jr Grizzlies Coach Stovall AND a guy that was with him that Coach Ed said was excellent help with the mats...both times. Mrs Demoss and the baby on her hip that rolled up and moved several mats WITH the baby on her hip most of the time...now that's a wrestling mom. BTW...Jarrett loves your family.... DREW ANDERSON was a great head ref....his daddy did a great job with him...he is awesome and level headed and Coach Ed can't say enough praise for him. Charlie Knox, Coach Stone and Josh Clark all did a great job of officiating...overall the officating was excellent....Big shout out to Josh Clark...he is gonna be an awesome official for the future...keep it up Josh... Richard Salyer was there every step of the way and learning the ropes to make KS a great state tourney in 3 weeks.
Can't forget the schools that helped by letting us use their mats. Wellington HS and Darin Goodrum and Mr.DeJaurnet -I know I spelled that wrong...sorry. and the MS coach...thanks for the 3 mats...without you...no tourney. Thanks to Circle HS and Coach Dryen from Kapaun for the use of their mats at the last minute and therefore we didn't have to drive all the way to MAC for their mats...and thanks to MAC and the Lannings and Engels for offering their mats.
Special thanks to Tyler Keller's little sister...that is the only name I can get out of Coach Ed...for those of you that know Coach Ed you are laughing right now because he can't remember anyones name without me there to tell a story about the person...thanks for singing the National Anthem for us. Good Job. Now you will forever be "Tyler Keller's little sister that sang the National Anthem at WSU" to Coach Ed.
Special Thanks to Coach Johnson and Coach Lindlar for Coaching the WHY Team all day because Coach Ed was "a little busy"! Thanks for taking the reins.
Last but not least...I have to thank my wonderful husband who single handedly made this tourney happen WITHOUT ME! That was the first and probably the last time he runs a tourney without me...lol
Good Job Coach Ed and everyone...overall a great day and a great tourney...I don't know how much money we made for WSU yet but I think we did pretty good for Coach Stovall and WSU's college wrestling team.
Ms. Jenni--the one that didn't show up...
And to the Anderson Family from Caney...look out because if we would have thought to ask you...we would have definitely put you to work. You are fair game for the future...cassidy is young and I have you for a long time..so look out...you are a great example of the great wrestling family.

but then Coach Ed went "old school" and we went to calling out first available mats and FS clipped right along. I wish all of our tournaments would go more towards first available. I believe it would eliminate many of our computer problems.
