The Women’s College Wrestling Association (WCWA) has issued its first individual rankings for the new women’s college wrestling season.

The top wrestlers in each of the 10 women’s college weight classes have been selected for the beginning of the 2009-10 college season.

The defending WCWA national champions is Oklahoma City Univ., which has four No. 1 ranked wrestlers in the first ranking of the season. OCU Stars who are top ranked include Nicole Woody (48 kg), Michaela Hutchison (55 kg), Tessa Plana (63 kg) and Stefenie Shaw (67 kg).

Perennial women’s college powerhouse the Univ. of the Cumberlands has two top-ranked wrestlers: Ashley Shannon (44 kg) and Lakia Henderson (95 kg). The Patriots were second at the WCWA Nationals last year.

Simon Fraser Univ. of Canada also has a pair of No. 1 ranked athletes: Taylor Dick (72 kg) and Hillary Greening (82 kg)

Also holding No. 1 rankings are Katherine Fulp-Allen of Menlo College (51 kg) and Tani Ader of Jamestown College (59 kg).

Nine of the 10 No. 1 ranked athletes are returning WCWA national champions. The only No. 1 who did not win the WCWA Nationals last year is Nicole Woody of OCU at 48 kg, who was third in the WCWA Nationals last season.

The 2010 WCWA Nationals is scheduled for January 30 at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo.

#8 at 105.5- Dannette O'Hara, wrestling for Jamestown College. Columbus, KS wrestler in her first year at the college level and already making an impact!

Dannette wrestled at 112 going 3-1 this weekend with her only loss going to Gabby Henry the #2 ranked wrestler at the 105.5lb weight class!

We are behind you all the way and want to congratulate you on a rather impressive first outing at the college level!

Dannette O’Hara and Michelle Quiles each picked up three wins for the Jamestown College women’s wrestling team at the season-opening Oklahoma City Duals on Saturday.

Dannette O’Hara and Michelle Quiles each picked up three wins for the Jamestown College women’s wrestling team at the season-opening Oklahoma City Duals on Saturday.

O’Hara, a sophomore from Columbus, Kan., earned a pin in a 31-10 loss to Oklahoma City. She also recorded a pair of decisions as the team split into two squads for duals against Oklahoma City and Cumberlands (Ky.).

Quiles, a sophomore from Silver Creek, N.Y., picked up three wins by decision.

Other JC wrestlers picking up wins in the duals were: Calie Cutler, Chelsie Fleming, Amanda Athon, Danielle Mayberry, Chaelyn Tan, Jamie Moore, Sunya Maxwell and Christina Ordonez.

The Jimmies compete in the Calgary Duals on Friday and in the Calgary Open on Saturday.
