GSP wants to wrestle freestyle for Canada at 2012 Olympics

I was just curious what some other avid MMA fans like myself were thinking about the possibility of GSP wrestling in the Olympics.

I really don't think he stands a chance unless he would stop training for the UFC and went exclusively to freestyle. He's not used to the stance and the techniques required to execute a typical takedown. I think this is more of a thought than an actual aspiration for GSP.

I agree ... Freestyle wrestling, imo, require dedication for the next 3-year for him to even be competitive! It would be quite a hill to climb to learn in 3-years what others (Eastern Blockers) have been doing their whole life!

GSP is an accomplished MMA and probably needs to stick to that discipline!

I think the dollar bills will make up his mind rather than the Olympic glory.

Do you have an idea what a Canadian Olympic wrestler makes?

It can't be anything near what he makes in the UFC. Plus, I'd think he'd have to wave bye-bye to some sponsorship cash. Trust me I tried to make the move from NASCAR to Formula One and Fig Newton's threatened to take away my window cling sponsorship due to the lack of windshields in Formula One.

The biggest problem "MMAers" have when wrestling is they instinctively go to their back when placed in predicament as they attempt to go to the "guard" to avoid rear chokes. When they do that, they usually get pinned. I have had a lot of high school kids who had some MMA training and they got pinned alot. They were decent on their feet but once the got taken down, they would usually go to their back and the ... lady sang.
However, we are talking about GSP and he is a World Class Athlete and Grappler and could probably make the adjustments easier than most would think. Plus, we are also talking about Canada. I would think that he could make Cananda's team. If we were talking about making America's team he wouldn't have a chance and would probably not even be in the top ten. So is his dream to wrestle in the Olympics, or is it to place or medal?

He works out with their national team on a regular basis. Go to the last quarter of the video:
