El Dorado, Kan. — The Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League recently met and voted on cuts in the league. The USD 590 Board of Education was updated on those changes during their March meeting.

One change is they will be moving from three to one commissioner over the next year for schools.

“They also are reducing the number of league passes each school receives,” said Superintendent Sue Givens.

That goes along with raising ticket prices for league events and they will no longer pay for facility rentals for post season events, which would affect USD 490 because of the swimming pool at the high school.

“We are the only swimming pool in our district,” Givens said. “Those events will always have to be held at El Dorado High School.”

They also came up with some ideas on state-wide cuts, which they will present to the KSHSAA.

The group agreed to encourage the KSHSAA to operate in a profit-free manner for two years to reduce the number of required offices, to increase the percent of gate receipts that come back to the host school of post-season events, to pay mileage to teams required to travel to post-season events and to promote electronic meetings for required training and updates.
