The Northeast Kansas Takedown League leads the series with the victory in the 2009 Dual. Team SEK is looking to even the series in the 2010 Takedown Dual and Tournament!

Burlington High School on Tuesday, June 22nd. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Enter through the West Side into the Wrestling Addition. (You will have to detour about 4 blocks around the construction in front of the Middle and High School buildings!

No Admission!! A great chance to watch some of Eastern Kansas' top wrestlers compete!!

Here are the Rules of Engagement:

1. Matches will consist of a single three minute period. (Clock will only stop for penalty, injury or blood time)

2. Takedowns are the standard two points. However, you may earn one bonus point for taking your opponent down directly to their back for a 2-count nearfall. A fall can occur within 5 seconds of a takedown to back.

3. Once a takedown has been scored and possible nearfall/fall established, action will be stopped. The wrestlers will return to the neutral position and the match will resume.

4. The wrestler with the most points scored at the end of the period will be the winner.

5. If at any time one wrestler is ahead by ten points or more, the match will end and the winner will be declared via a "technical fall."

6. Standard NFHS Penalties including Stalling and Illegal Holds will apply.

7. Overtime Procedures: A sudden death period will be wrestled, there must be a takedown in overtime.

8. Dual Team Score: Decision = 3, Tech = 5 and Fall = 6

General Horgan - you might want to bring a few white flags! (just having some fun to get the rhetoric started!!)

Signed -
General Douglas E. V. (kinda sounds like Robert E. Lee)

Coach Horgan and the NEK Troops -

There is a detour (blockade) set up in front of the high school. You will need to turn left at the start of the construction and go a block. Then turn right and go 3 blocks west to Cleveland Street. Turn right and go 2 blocks through the stop sign to the west parking lot of the high school. Park just outside of new wrestling addition and enter at your own risk.

Beware of a possible ambush waiting upon your arrival!!

Respectfully -

remember the north will always win! the south will never rise again!

then north prevails! i think the final dual score was 45-31. with 11 wins for the north to 8 wins for the south. north highlights off the top of my head:
-7th grade 85lb alex cavanaugh defeated 8th grade 97lb chuckie schmidt 2-1 to win tourney title.
-college division: kyle wichman of york/silver lake defeats both andrew laib west point/ emporia and kopfman of pratt cc/ burlington. in dominating fashion without giving up a point.
-newman frosh steven cooksley undefeated on the night.
-seaman soph hwt dylan hall with an ot win in the dual.

lots of others but dont have results yet. the burlington group did another fantastic job hosting. overall great evening of wrestling.

General Horgan and Sergeant Singer had the North Squad ready for what turned out to be a very good 2nd Annual SEK vs. NEK Takedown Dual!

Half way through the Battle at Wolf Creek, Team SEK had a 23-19 lead. However, in the final 9 matches, Team NEK won 6 straight matches to take the lead and the 45-31 victory. The final match count was 11-8 which was competitive. (Team SEK did not take the 2 Opens that they had [Brett Bober and Nathan Vander Linden] which would have made the final dual score 45-43.)

Team NEK won the 2009 dual by a score of 50-32. This gives them a 2-0 team dual victory heading into 2011 - Battle at the Lake!

After the dual, the wrestlers were divided into Brackets for a Takedown Tournament. Brackes of 3 or 4 wrestlers, competed in matches consisting of 2 out of 3 takedowns. The winners got FOOD prizes from Sonic!

A special thanks to all the wrestlers, parents, coaches and officials that were involved in our 2nd Annual Takedown Leagues!!

We hope to continue to grow and have an even great event in 2011!
