Let's get those up now too so we can start chirpping about who showed up at what school. Also can be a fun early way to talk about the potential KS CUP participants.

Good sized squads this year...we'll see how many last until second semester! This year should be a record for total KS college wrestlers. I think every team in the state is young this year, that should make for an exciting Kansas Cup. Everyone is going, right?
It's nice to see Newman U. step up and get some nice facilities for their guys. It's nice to see NW Tech schedule the KS Cup. It's nice to be closing in on wrestling season!

From what I have seen with the 2 posted rosters thus far, I think FHSU's 149 weight class will have some great battles. For Baker 125 is a monster with several Kansas studs, and after doing some checking I found that Rabinowitz was an All American at 112 last year at Sr. Nationals, so he might redshirt due to size. 157 looks very solid as well for Baker.
2 down...6 to go, where are the rest of the teams?

Mitchell Means will probably have the 149 spot. I think he is making the transition into a tough college wrestler with big things to come. There are several other talented youngsters on the squad too.

Two returning finalists (one champ) and a young squad surrounding them. There is some talent on this roster.

* Denotes Redshirt 58 wrestlers on the roster. That is a very big squad. This is really adding to the enrollment at Baker University. Some other universities and colleges that could use additional enrollment should take notice of this.

Anybody see a trend here...4 teams have posted their information:
All 3 universities and 1 juco.
The first 3 teams to post were top 3 finishers at Kansas Cup.
Maybe the ability to have good PR and keep the fans informed of what is going on is why these teams had success in 2010.
Kudos to Newman for having their stuff in too...did they just complete the NAIA transition? (or was it done in 2009?) I think there is potential there with that team as well.

Someone get a calculator...I have always read the debate about per capita on how many wrestlers Kansas has per state population, but going down the list of the rosters we have thus far. Take the total amount and find out what percentage is Kansas wrestlers? I see a lot of Oklahoma kids on the list...but mainly in the junior college ranks, so maybe in that regards...Kansas has more intelligent kids that they can go straight to a 4 year school?

Plenty of Junior College kids can get into 4 year schools! I think the majority of the kids on my squad were qualifiers. The opportunities to get a scholarship at a four year school are limited and some times a guy may need to go the Juco route in order to see mat time. Many are able to blossom at this level and get a scholarship to a four year school where they would have had to walk-on two years prior. It's no secret Oklahoma has great talent and it's no secret three of the schools in the state (Labette, Newman, and Pratt) are within close proximity to Oklahoma. Some of those Okies are plenty intelligent but they have had something standing in the way of their academic success...I didn't say all of 'em though! Please don't question the intelligence of a young man because he has chosen an alternative route. Consider yourself enlightened, as requested.

While you've got the calculator out I've got another calculation for you:
Un-Named KS Private University Comprehensive tuition and fees = $22,280/yr
Un-Named KS Junior College 30 credit hours/year tuition and fees Kansas Residents = $2,310/yr Arkansas, Missouri, & Oklahoma Residents = $2,970/yr
I realize private Universities have funds in the form of grants that they can freely disburse to make the tuition equation more appealing. This is not a knock on Private Univerities in any way, but a defense of the Junior College boys. Junior College is a great opportunity for many reasons and it in no way impedes an individual from reaching the top of the world. It's wrestling season and I'm itchin...I realize you’re having fun but I felt compelled to step up there. Forgive my junior college grammar.

Mr. Wennihan,
I did not intend to irk you when I mentioned that (just a bit of sarcastic humor that obviously didn't go over well). I believe junior colleges serve as a great option, especially when you consider Missouri, Arkansas (although they may have one now), Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico don't have Junior College wrestling. Some of these schools can offer up to so many scholarships (and in some cases probably give assistance elsewhere), so with those many faces and very few education options with wrestling, it isn't a bad stepping stone.
I will say Junior Colleges make more sense then Prep Schools you see on the East Coast which get you ready for college but you don't get credit for the classes...it is like redshirting, but still having the option to redshirt later on.
Jayhawk CC schools have done pretty well too I believe in the last several years (at least the team that has the best GPA in the region). I believe in the last 10 years or so Labette, Neosho, and Colby all have won the Academic National Championships.
However the only thing that winds up hurting some of these kids is what I expect to be a lack of motivation (notice I said some and not all). If you look at kids that have had success at the NJCAA level, some of them fall off the radar at the next level...not because of talent, but because nobody is there to nurture them so much (or as some may say "baby them").
Let's face it some of the best kids academically are probably not the starters at these junior colleges (not always the case as some were just missed in the recruiting process, or a larger school didn't have need for that weight or money at this time). The academic kids may go on or may not. The "studs" will get opportunities to go on and may last a semester, be eligible for Nationals while half-heartidly going to class and then wind up dropping out of school after a stellar 1.23 gpa at Big University.
I didn't mean to knock the junior college system, more times then not, they are cleaning up a mess from poor high school education systems that just pushed some of these kids through.
Enlighten Me!

No worries Eneto. I appreciate your input on the board. Like I said, it's wrestling season and I'm itchin! I just needed to get up at the front of the cage and do some barkin'...with you rattlin' my cage and all.
There are a lot of juco kids that go on and have academic and mat success at the D2 and NAIA levels. There have not been a lot, in recent years, to go on and have succesful careers at the D1 level. That can be attributed to many things including low GPA, competition level, nobody holding their hand, injuries, change in coaching style, family troubles, etc...it's like most things in life, it's usually more "grey" than black and white.
