I am hearing the Kauffman-Brand Open on 11/20 will be bigger than ever due to MU not hosting the Missouri open the same weekend. The Kauffman-Brand has always been one of the largest opens and some are saying 800 wrestlers may compete. I do know that UNO is adding mats in the new building adjoining the field house. Should be a lot of good wrestling and a long day and night!

It was crowded like that three years ago and we left at midnight. The wrestling was great so it was worth it.

What Kansas teams will be at the Kaufman Brand next week?
How about wrestlers from Kansas on non-Kansas teams who will be competing?

Fort Hays State will be there. I'm not sure if the whole team is coming, but usually they do.

This years Kaufman Brand currently has over 750 wrestlers entered from 14 states representing 40 teams. The matches will be wrestled on 15 mats making this years tournament the largest in history. Click the link to follow tournament results and catch up on some history. www.omavs.comIn 2007, 600 wrestlers competed in over 1,400 matches from 9 a.m. - 11 p.m. I guess tomorrow is going to be a long day!!

All amateur brackets are over 32, so 64 man brackets with a lot of byes. I was told maybe 1 or 2 elite brackets are over 32.

I don't think the brackets are posted yet. They will be up on the website sometime in the morning and then updated throughout the day tomorrow.

Wrestling started at 9. No brackets up yet? Just heard from Perry Madl that all of the OU guys are in the Elite brackets.

Those are the right ones. Parker Madl was set to wrestle Nick Flynn but that changed at 157. They are live streaming UNO matches and some others. Also a thread on themat.com.
Nick Flynn just won his first match!

2010 UNO KAUFMAN-BRAND OPEN DIVISION PARAMETERS We have designed the parameters so that the two different divisions keep the same individuals as the previous year’s merely to keep the numbers similar for organizational purposes. Elite Division: (Formerly the Open Division) Has EITHER previously engaged in a minimum of 2 years of intercollegiate competition OR has participated in a minimum of 5 open events since November 1, 2009 (see below for definitions). Amateur Division: (Formerly the 20 & under Division) Has NEITHER previously engaged in a minimum of 2 years of intercollegiate competition NOR participated in a minimum of 5 open events since November 1, 2009. NCAA Bylaw 13.11.3.1 "Open" Events Competition shall be considered "open" if the competitive event itself is not classified by age group or level of educational institution represented, and the selection of participants is not limited except by number, by geographical area or on the basis of some objective standard of performance. NCAA Bylaw 14.02.6 Intercollegiate Competition Intercollegiate competition occurs when a student-athlete in either a two-year or a four-year collegiate institution: (Revised: 1/10/95) (a) Represents the institution in any contest against outside competition, regardless of how the competition is classified (e.g., scrimmage, exhibition or joint practice session with another institution's team) or whether the student is enrolled in a minimum full-time program of studies; (Revised: 1/10/91) (b) Competes in the uniform of the institution or, during the academic year, uses any apparel (excluding apparel no longer used by the institution) received from the institution that includes institutional identification; or (Revised: 1/16/93, 1/11/94, 1/9/06) (c) Competes and receives expenses (e.g., transportation, meals, room or entry fees) from the institution for the competition.

Labette Still alive in the Amateur Division at 125,133, 149, 174, HWT. Walker Clarke is still alive in the 197 Elite Division. It looks like a few of the heavy hitters didn't make the trip.

It was a great day of wrestling. Lots of Kansas kids were fighting with the top kids from some of the top programs in the country. If you ever have the chance to come up and watch this tournament, you will not be let down.

Andy,
Actually if you follow the lead of my friends and myself over the years your accomplishment will be embellished and by the last time you tell the story your victory will have been for the NCAA D-1 title which you would have won by a first period fall as an 18 year freshman against a fifth year Iowa senior!
As we get older our memories fade but our exploits grow!

Andy,
First, back in HS, you were suppose to be on your back 'flopping like a June bug' at the Metro Classic (didn't happen - you won!). Now you have gone on to beat a future 3 time national D-1 Champ!
The Sky is the limit for Mr. Hurla!
Hurla for President! He can fix this messed up economy!
