SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Junior 165-pounder Ryan DesRoches needed just four minutes and 32 seconds to record three falls and lead the Cal Poly wrestling team to dual meet victories over Southern Oregon, Cal Baptist and Menlo College on Friday in Mott Gym.
The Mustangs beat Southern Oregon 36-9, Cal Baptist 31-15 and Menlo College 30-15 to improve their dual meet record to 4-0. All three opponents are NAIA schools.
DesRoches pinned Nick Dumolt of Southern Oregon in 1:27, Kenneth Tribble of Cal Baptist in 2:32 and Adam Obad of Menlo College in just 33 seconds, lifting his total number of falls this season to 11. DesRoches (pictured above) tied the school record of 17 a year ago.
Also winning three matches was Mustang 141-pounder Boris Novachkov. He pinned Kyle Wirkuty of Southern Oregon in 2:15, posted a 17-4 major decision against Christian Martinez of Menlo College and won by forfeit against Cal Baptist.
Going 2-0 on the day was 157-pounder Barrett Abel with a fall in 4:04 over Justin Mills of Southern Oregon and a 16-1 technical fall over Bronson Gerl of Cal Baptist.
Pearce Swerdfeger replaced Abel against Menlo College and earned a fall in 4:48 over Tylar Clarke.
Mustang 125-pounder Britain Longmire, 133-pounder Jake Tanenbaum, 149-pounder Stephan Thalin, 174-pounder Steven Vasquez and 184-pounder Kelan Bragg all went 2-1 on the day.
Ryan Smith won his only match of the day at 197, an 18-8 major decision over Ronald Lee of Southern Oregon while 285-pounder Atticus Disney split two matches.
In other dual meets Friday, Southern Oregon defeated Cal Baptist 31-18, Cal Baptist beat Menlo College 21-18 and Southern Oregon outscored Menlo College 22-16.
Cal Poly will compete in the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday at the Reno Events Center.
