Jr. High and High School wrestling coaches interested in having their team attend the tournament need to send their rosters to Bryce Bahe at bambahe@hotmail.com by Saturday night. Admission will be $1/head for the teams whose roster is received by the deadline. Brackets will be posted Saturday night after the seeding meeting and will be available at http://fhsuathletics.com/index.aspx?path=wrestling.

I haven't looked in depth at the weights but I think 149 will be the toughest weight with Means (FHSU), Arnold (NU), and Perez (LCC).

Rankings don't mean everything but they will help paint a better picture of the competition this weekend.
NCAA Division II Rankings (1/19/11) FHSU (19th) Newman University (Unranked)
NAIA Rankings (1/25/11) Baker (Unranked)
NJCAA Rankings (1/12/11) Labette Community College (4th) Northwest Kansas Technical College (18th) Colby Community College (20th) Neosho Community College (Unranked) Pratt Community College (Unranked)
Weight Class Overview (with rankings and my two cents):
125 - Garrett Jones Labette (7th), Jesse Barber-Pratt (9th), and Jeff Vesta – Neosho (10th). Marco Tamayo-Colby is tough too
133 – Aldon Eisenburg (Ranked 8th in NCAA DII) is the favorite. Ty Fitje-Labette (10th), Danny Floyd-NWKTC (4th)
141 – Andre Harrison (Ranked 5th in NCAA DII) is the favorite; Jace Campbell-Colby (5th); Jordan Basks-Labette (7th)
149 – Michael Perez –Labette (4th); Mitch Arnold (Unranked); Mitchell Means (Unranked)...dogfight with Means probably the favorite
157- Kayton Marshall-Labette (11th); Derek Koehn-FHSU (20-12 record)
165 – Travis Budke-FHSU (7th in NCAA DII); John Hambleton-Labette (10th)
174 – Gage Martin-Labette (8th)
184- Ray Hall-Labette (11th); Tyler Gonzales (3x NCAA DII Qualifier)
197- Walker Clarke-Labette (2nd) and returning National Champ; Blake Steirt-Colby (11th)...Clarke should win this weight.
HWT - Reno Redleaf-Labette (3rd); Levi Calhoun (Baker) Ranked #10; Justin Glenn (FHSU) 19-3 on the season. Another tough weight...I'll put my money on Redleaf

Go Wildcats! In the other four weights for Baker: 125 Gassman placed fourth, 133 McGuire took 3rd, 157 Hurla and 285 Calhoun are both in the third place match, so Baker University will place a wrestler in the top four in all ten weights! Very good showing, Wildcats! Great improvement in one year.

Good job Baker! In two years you got second! 5 second placers and a champion at 174! Amazing job, coach May! Congratulations to the Baker wrestlers, Coach May and the rest of his coaching staff. Second place as a team, one champion, five second place finishers, three third place finishers and one fourth place. That is very remarkable for a second year squad. Also congratulations to Labette CC on winning the team championship.

That is a tough Baker team. Congrats on second place.
Congrats to the Labette Squad for winning the 2011 Kansas Cup with (7) freshman and only one returning starter. The Cards lost two national finalists (one to injury) but stepped right back up this year and took home the team title with 104.5 points!

Labette CC has a great wrestling program and it has been a strength for the Kansas wrestling community for a very long time. You have a great coach and your wrestlers have been outstanding and continue to be. It was an outstanding victory for Labette yesterday. Congratulations to your coaches, wrestlers and fans!
