Has the Middle School wrestling season ended? If not when is it supposed to be over?

To my knowledge, all the one's ongoing will, as the previous poster said, be done the weekend before subs.

I am sorry. That is what I am asking. Here in Southeast Kansas, we have been done for a while. I would like to know which ones are not done.

Maybe I should be asking, who is coming out of middle school wrestling that will be wrestling in the 105 lb bracket?

What age group? Nick Reeb Ogden Outlaws, Justin Rieschick Holton, both good 105#'s in the 14 and under.

How many matches on average does a middle sckool wrestler get on the season we don't wrestle middle sckool. We've gotten I think around 40 in kids club so far.

People debate kids club vs MS all the time.
I personally think that unless you are wrestling in an exceptional MS program that kids is the way to go!
BUT
My son will wrestle MS next year. For us its about community pride and him getting the entire wrestling experience.
After that he can make his own choices! I know he loves the sport and I don't want him to have any "what ifs"!
Sometimes its great for a kid to get out of the box.

Keeps it fun and exciting and maybe they will learn something from the MS that they never would of gotten from kids club.

Its all good. I'm not knocking it just didn't know anything about it. I say keep them involved in something. No mater what it is. I do like being involved in the duels format its alot of fun. I can see why some people prefer mi wr.

My son had 38 matches in the two years he wrestled MS. Both years the season was about 7 weeks long.

At Silver Lake, most of our Jr high kids get around 20 matches. Some get 25. Our last event is the first weekend in December.
For example, Khamin Crow went 17-2 in the Jr High season. He's gone 18-0 during the club season. That's including taking a couple of weekends off. So I think if you want matches, you'll get them. I sure wouldn't want to have a late Jr High season.

Having an 8th grader wrestling I see a lot of pros and cons to both ways. MS wrestling teaches the TEAM concept better which better prepares them for High School, whereas being in MS he is unable to compete in certain tournaments. Pros are that they practice 4 days a week with a dual each week as opposed to 3 times a week and a weekend tournament. Another Pro is that practice is completed by 5:30...gives time to do homework and eat dinner as a family as opposed to practice starting at 6 and getting home after 8:30. Another Pro is for those that have been wrestling in Kids before MS, those MS wrestlers have the opportunity to become leaders on the team due to their knowledge of the sport and helping the MS coaches "teach" the other kids that have never wrestled before.
The downside to this is when the MS season is. In a lot of the state, MS wrestling begins just after football ends and ends in December. Around the Wichita area, MS season starts in January and ends right before Sub-Districts. If all of the MS leagues would get on the same page and have the wrestling season start after football and end in December there wouldn't be a debate between MS and Kids wrestling. You could do both and enjoy a lot of the tournaments throughout the year after MS finished up.

With my son, he participated in MS wrestling last year and gave up the opportunity to go to some of the bigger tournaments which are held from January to March being top of 12U. This was his decision and he enjoyed the experience. This year being bottom of 14U and in 8th grade he decided to go MS again for not only the practices, but also to see the different competition and have a leadership role on the team. He also knows that after the HS season, there will be a ton of 14U Freshmen coming out and felt he needed more practices to work on his wrestling and toughness to be able to compete being bottom of age.

MS may not be perfect for everyone, but I do believe kids need to learn the team concept at the very least before they step in the High School wrestling arena.

Tim and Crash99,

You are both on target. The Jr High season is a great way to introduce a wrestler to the Team Concept. They will get a lot of practice time and plenty of matches (by the middle of December if they start wrestling in late October) to get a jump start on the Kids' season. The most important part as far as I am concerned is the Team Concept. That definitely will get a wrestler prepared for their High School years, especially when you are a Freshman. I think that all of the Jr High programs across the state should wrestle from October to December.

our football coach used to tell us, that in no other sport than football do you prepare so much, but compete so little. meaning 5 days of practice for 1 games. well youth wrestling has become this way. 4 days of practice for one tournament. we have seen that many times when wrestlers are getting close to that middle school age they really need something different, for a while. practices after school, instead of 6pm, new kids in the room (many kids don't come out until ms and learn very quickly), different coaches, and the team concept. all of these are welcomed changes to a pre-teen.

Does your town have to have middle school wrestling to go to this?
