I swore I read on the forums or something that the same venue was hosting this event at a later date. Is there more then one championship event being hosted there?

Yes, the two posts above are correct. They are two different organizations. USGWA was founded over 10 years ago by Kent Bailo in Michigan. He wanted to provide girls the opportunity to compete against each other and started hosting State tournaments all across the United States. This is the 10th year for Kansas to host one of his tournaments. He also provides a National tournament every year in Michigan. McPherson has had the opportunity to host both the USGWA and USAW state tournaments the last 6 years. You don't have to purchase a membership card with the USGWA, your entry fee provides that for you. The USAW tournament in March you will have to have a USAW card. There are approximately 300 girls registered in the State this year. It would be awesome if they all showed up to compete. Last year we had a little over 100 entrys for the USGWA, and less for the USAW for some reason. We weigh the girls in and block their weights. We try to stay in a close group for their weights. Bailo goes by a percentage. I think 15%. All round robin brackets up to 6 woman. They are grouped by classes instead of ages. He does try to avoid k-2 from wrestling older girls. It depends on the bracket sizes. If we see something like that or are made aware of it we'll try to correct it. I hope to see all you ladies there this Sunday!

Is this the 10th year for that college to host the event as well? Seems as though they have some interest in wrestling, maybe there should be a push for a woman's and men's team at that college?

I do not know about the interest of the college. I believe the tournament has been held at the college approximately 4-5 of the 6 years that the tournament has been in McPherson.

Girls, I will be in Kansas City for the Missouri USGWA on Saturday. I have already talked to Coach Jason Ogden from Hoyt. If you need a coach I would be more than happy to help. Just grab me at the tournament. Good luck this weekend and I hope to see you all at the state tournament in McPherson Sunday. Let's make this the biggest one yet.
