Three Saints Claim Titles at William Penn Open

Maryville University claimed three first-place finishes at the William Penn Open in Oskaloosa, Iowa, over the weekend.

Brandon Oshirio (133 lb.) continued his progression with his first placing this year. The "Flying Hawaiian" finished with a 3-1 overall record and placed second, losing in the finals to Ben Cash of Iowa State. Joey Moorhouse (157 lb.) also finished 3-1 on the day and second overall placing for his third consecutive placing. Moorhouse lost in a late decision 4-1 Nick Loughlin, who is ranked second in Division III, of Cornell College in the championship match.

The 165-pound championship match was between fellow Maryville wrestlers Dimitri Willis and Brett Rosedale. Rosedale won by forfeit from Willis because of a nagging ankle injury. Rosedale placed first overall and went 4-0 with three major decisions. The Iowa-native has placed in four of five tournaments and has improved on his placing throughout the season. Willis finished 3-1 with only loss coming to Rosedale. Willis's quarterfinal match against Northern Iowa's Kyle Lux proved to be a thriller. Both battled evenly throughout the match before Willis, down 6-2, forced a reversal pin in the third round to secure the victory.

Freshman Keenan Hagerty will go down in the record books as Maryville University's first ever first-place finisher. He had his third consecutive placing and compiled an overall record of 4-0. If a Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament award had been given it might have gone to Hagerty. The 149-pounder recorded three pins and a tech fall which would have given him the most overall team points for the tournament. Fellow true freshman Tyrell Galloway took fifth place and put together a 3-2 record. This is Galloway's second placing of the year, and he wrestled unattached at this meet.

Matt Baker (197 lb.) took home first place and 3-0 overall record with his 6-0 decision over Iowa State's Trevor Voelker. All three of Baker's victories came against Division I opponents and as he registered his third consecutive placing. Heavyweight Morgan Denson placed third overall and posted a 4-1 record. This was Denson's first placing of the year and now has improved his record each tournament participated in.

Maryville continues the season on Sunday, Jan. 15, in Warrensburg, Mo., for the Dinker Open. Action will begin at 9 a.m. and will be livestreamed through the Maryville Wrestling Facebook page and Livestream.com.
