Congrats to Ryne Cokeley! That is one heck of an effort beating Matt White from Oklahoma State for 3rd place. He lost a tough one to Keenan Hagerty 3-2 on the front side by a takedown with 16 seconds to go.

Also, congrats to Matt Baker for winning the 197 bracket! Lancer proud!!!

Gentlemen,

Thank you all for the above info. I really enjoy seeing how our Kansas men that advance on to college are doing. And, it sure is DOUBLY NICE to have a one-place 'shopping area' to do it in (ie. this forum).

Thanks again for keeping us informed. I appreciate it very much.

OK. But who and where is the Badger Wrestling Club. Is it a non-supported school club like the Wichita State Wrestling Club, is it a redshirt team/club from a college/university/etc. Is it just a non affiliated/non school club similar to an AAU sports club????

It was a legit question, it has been asked on here before who Ryne was wrestling for and not answered. So how about an explanation of the Badger Wrestling Club Chief or Will.

I was informed this weekend by Will Cokeley that Ryne Cokeley is currently planning on taking a grayshirt year next season and wrestling for the Badger Wrestling Club.

Ryne Cokeley, wrestled all four years for Coach Mike Medina at St. James Academy. Ryne had a historic high school wrestling career. Ryne is one of our state's outstanding four time state champions. Very few wrestlers are part of this very exclusive club. Ryne won State Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Other Career achievements per the program from the March 8, 2011 Annual Missouri-Kansas Metro Classic Senior All Star Dual (it may be that some of the following should be updated for subsequent accomplishments). It should also be noted that Ryne won his match this year that the Metro Classic Senior Dual:

Career Record: 170-13
3X Freestyle State Champon
3X Greco State Champion
Cadet Freestyle National Runner Up
Cadet Greco-3rd
Regionals 3X Champion, 2nd ('09)
Garden City - 1st (2008 and 2011)
Mid-American Classic City 2nd 2011, 3rd 2010
Junior Nationals-2nd 2010

3.2 GPA

Ryne Cokeley has also been an outstanding contributor to many of our State Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco teams over his youth and high school career.

Ryne Cokeley, Congratulations on your outstanding wrestling and academic career. Best of luck next year with wrestling on the Badger Wrestling Club. Also we wish you the best with your future academic and wrestling pursuits.

Did that. Googled Badger Wrestling Club. Got 2 hits--one for a kids team in Wisconsin, second hit for a team of post high school wrestlers (all wrestlers appeared to be from Wisconsin)--but did not show Cokeley as a member.

So, if independent, how enter a college tournament?

Don't know anything about Cokeley's "greyshirt", where he's at, etc.....but nearly anyone post HS can enter an Open Tournament if you pay the entry fee. Some Opens even allow HS entries.

The NCAA does NOT allow HS wrestlers to compete in OPENS. This ruling was put into effect the fall of 2010. Every OPEN now states "Open to ALL post high school wrestlers". Although it has never been officially stated I believe the rule was a reaction to Chance Marstellar's participation in a college open when he was just an 8th grader. If a tournament allows a HS wrestler to compete the matches will not count towards the opc (optimum performance calculator).

All red shirts are independents.

Ryne is in Madison but is NOT a full time student. The NCAA allows a student one "free" year if you do not enroll as a full time student before you eligibility clock starts ticking. He plans to be a full time student next fall and thereafter until he finishes his degree and has exhausted his eligibility. He will stil have a red shirt year available.
