Don't forget about the Clinic this weekend, Sunday, March 11th, 9 am 3:30 pm, at the Odessa HS wrestling room. Walk ins are welcome. Fee is 50.00
Why this format? This time of year, if kids can win more or the 1-2 point matches they have, they WILL have a better outcome at the states. That's why this format helps so much.
The kids will work on:
1. building from a bad shot to a score
2. getting stalemates (or scoring) from a bad shot (HI C and Single)
3. front headlock (positioning and an easy scoring system)
4. hold position, building position from the bottom
5. an improved stand up (to hold position, gain back pressure, and get their back straight against a better/bigger opponent)
6. power switch (so kids don't get caught on their hip and give up wrists.
7. Defense: motion and hip pressure for defense
Hopefully this will help the kids win more one point matches this time of year, which has to be the goal. Kids will jump to "higher levels of wrestling" thru summertime training in purler practices. But I know that a format like the above can have a quick impact on kids, and is a focus in my rooms this time of year.
Hope you can make it.
