Starting this week we kickoff the semester training series hosted by myself and the Park Hill/Greater Heights coaching staff. This training regimen was a huge success last year on both the high school and youth levels. What makes our training unique is that it provides high-level instruction, technicial drilling, live wrestling as well a strength and conditioning component in each session. In addition, our coaches are on the mat wrestling with the athletes and providing immediate feedback during the sessions. This training is modeled after the Olympic Training Center and Olympic Regional Training sites. In essence, this is an ongoing training/technique camp with an emphasis on the mental aspect of the sport and learning to be able to wrestle continuously in all positions. We will be training the mind and body to work together as the wrestling unfolds and learning how to turn difficult positions into positions from which we score. Wrestling is not simply the ability to perform a series of moves but figuring out how to transition from one dominant position to another and how to counter your opponent while continuing to wrestle without hesitating or stopping momentarily. That ability is a characteristic the top college and senior level wrestlers possess and why they are dominating their competition right now.

Again, this is a training series so athletes will be pushed hard in both their wrestling and strength and conditioning. The expectation level is high as our goal is to build and mold champions now and to instill a work ethic and mindset that breeds success moving forward.

Youth Training:
On the youth level our room is open to all wrestlers no matter what club they are affiliated with during the folkstyle season. Last year we had youth wrestlers from over 15 different youth clubs committed to our training semesters. This is an opportunity for wrestlers to come in and experience a training methodology and system that has produced 10 consecutive youth state team titles. The Greater Heights formula is aimed at building highly-skilled, mentally and physcially tough wrestlers that possess the confidence to not only compete with but beat the best competition in the country. One thing I guarantee is that those who partake in our training will learn, retain and transform into a different type of wrestler.

The program will run as follows:

The first training semester will run 7 weeks and include 14 primary sessions and 9 bonus/supplementary sessions). The primary sessions will run every Wednesday night from 6:00-7:45pm and also select Thursdays from 6:00-7:45pm and Sundays from 3:00-5:00pm. Supplementary sessions will run on Mondays from 6:00-7:45pm and on Thursdays from 6:00-7:45pm when there is a Sunday scheduled practice. The supplementary sessions will be entirely freestyle and greco oreinted and include technique, drilling and live wrestling in those specific styles. The primary sessions will concentrate on all three styles of wrestling (folkstyle, freestyle and greco) with a focus on fundamental attacks and scoring from top, bottom and neutral and learning how to wrestling continuously. During some of the primary sessions the room may be divided to adhere to group specific training goals.

All sessions will be at Park Hill High School and is open to all peewee, youth and high school wrestlers with at least one year of experience and who have a current USA Competitor's Card. If a wrestler needs to purchase a current USA Card we can certainly assist with that process. The training groups will be limited in number so that each wrestler receives individual focus and attention from our staff. Once the practice room is at capacity we will offer a waiting list for the second training semester.

There are a total of 23 available workouts in the first semester. That is less than $4 per session if you attend all scheduled sessions. If you attend only the primary sessions the cost per workout is still less than $6 per session. This is the most affordable training opportunities you can invest in this spring/summer. Your athletes will train with some of the best athletes and coaches in the country.

These training cycles will fill up quickly and last year we had wrestlers on a waiting list for the next available training semester. If you want to reserve a spot before Wednesday's or Sunday's sessions please email me at jasonkeck@yahoo.com. Sign ups and payment will be due on the first night your wrestler trains with us. This can be done at any primary scheduled session above unless we are already at capacity. If that occurs, your wrestler will be placed on the waiting list for the next semester. All first semester wrestlers have priority to enroll in the second semester training cycle.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the training being offered or schedule please do not hesitate to contact me.

We have had a wonderful turnout at the first three sessions of our advanced training semester. It is awesome to see the talent that is currently in the room and the wrestlers pushing one another hard from the get-go.

Our strength and conditioning phase is something our athletes and parents are really impressed with so far. We have a certified trainer on staff who has designed wrestling specific exercises aimed at building explosiveness, foot speed, agility and quickness. This is part of each training session.

If there were wrestlers competing this past weekend at the Elementary or Middle School Duals who still want to get registered for our workouts then please shoot me an email at jasonkeck@yahoo.com.

For those still wanting to get signed up for this semester, I highly recommend doing so this week and contacting me ASAP as there is only a handful of openings left. Once we are full, I will start our waiting list for next semester.

This is also a great opportunity for high school wrestlers preparing for the KS State Tournament and qualifying for the FS/GR national dual teams to mix it up with some high level training partners while sharpening some key positions and areas to score. We are just a few weeks away from that event.

Any youth or high school wrestlers wishing to train with us on a per session basis should contact me for details and pricing for those type of individual workout opportunities.

The session dates are provided above with 20 remaining workouts scheduled for this semester.
