STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State wrestling team hosted its preseason showcase on Sunday in Gallagher-Iba Arena, where the Orange team walked away with a 25-11 win over the Black squad.
The dual was highlighted by a pair of dominating technical fall wins from Anthony Collica (Orange) and Tyler Caldwell (Black) at 141 and 165 pounds, respectively.
Sophomore Eddie Klimara picked up a win for the Orange team in the first match of the dual, defeating Connor Cline, 5-4.
Senior and returning All-American Jon Morrison tied up team score with his 6-4 decision over freshman Dean Heil.
The team score went back and forth with Caldwell and Josh Kindig earning wins for the Black squad, and Collica and Chris Koo tallying Orange wins.
The momentum shifted in favor of the Orange squad with returning national champion Chris Perry's 17-6 major decision over Quinten Patterson.
Nolan Boyd, Blake Rosholt and Austin Marsden followed Perry's lead, finishing off the dual with three consecutive wins for the Orange team.
"Every time I walk away from ranking matches, my thought is that we need to get better, and there is no difference this year," coach John Smith said. "I think any time you make weight for the first time and then you wrestle, it doesn't always end up the way you want it to. What I want to see more of is aggressiveness on the mat and working to extend leads. Those are just some areas we need to see improvement in."
The Cowboys open their season against Bucknell on Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
