I know we are not supposed to repeat threads, but Greg is a Kansas kids wrestling hall of famer, at the very least. A man that has dedicated his life to wrestling! From what I have heard he needs the prayers of all of us in the wrestling family. We will take time in our practices to pray for him and his family. We sure hope to see you in the stands again Greg. May God Bless you always!

Ditto on that, but here is a link to those that know what is going on including the Grater family posting on updates:

there's also a link on the homepage to an article in the Clay Center Dispatch that should explain some things.

Fund-raisers to benefit Grater family

Fund-raising events are scheduled Thursday, Jan. 19, through Saturday, Jan. 21, to assist the Greg Grater family with medical expenses.

Grater remains hospitalized as he battles pacreatitis.

A family spokesperson this afternoon said Grater's condition has deteriorated over the past several days.

At Ray's Apple Market, barbecue pork sandwiches will be sold each of the three days at a cost of two for $3. There also will be a drawing for a number of prizes at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Ray's

At 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, there also will be an on-air auction on KCLY.

In addition, Kier's Thritway has donated a $50 in store gift certificate that people can register for over the next four weeks. A drawing will be held at the end of the four-week period.

Anyone wishing to donate items for the drawing or help in any way can call Teresa Yarrow at 785 630-0587 or Linda Underwood at 632-3755 after 5:30 p.m.

Matching funds will be available from Thrivent Branch #30307.

People wanting to make a donation prior to the fund-raisers can do by sending a check to:
RRC#30307
c/o Linda Underwood
1729 Hackberry Rd.
Clay Center, KS 67432

There also has been an account established at a local bank. That account is:
Greg Grater Medical Fund
c/o Clay County National Bank
PO Box 260
Clay Center, KS 67432-0260.

Grater is the club director and head coach of the Clay County Wrestling Club. Since the club's inception in 1972, he has helped many young wrestlers get their start.

In addition, the club has served as a building block for the CCCMS and CCCHS wrestling teams.

Grater serves as the executive state director for Kansas Kids Wrestling and on the board of USA Kansas Wrestling, Inc. His activities with CCWC and Kansas Kids Wrestling are all done on a volunteer basis.

Grater also has assisted Rocky Downing at KCLY with CCCHS wrestling coverage over the past several years.

After his diagnosis last September, Grater had a severe pancreatitis attack on Nov. 11 and spent a few days in the Clay County Medical Center and Salina Regional Medical Center.

He has been a patient at the KU Medical Center since Nov. 16.

Since his stay in Kansas City, Grater has undergone three surgeries, numerous CT scans, x rays and many other tests.

Grater enjoys receiving cards and notes from friends. His address is:
Greg Grater
KU Medical Center
3901 Rainbow Blvd.
Kansas City, KS 66160.

Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas is a long, flat gland tucked behind the stomach between the upper part of the small intestine (duodenum) and the spleen.

The pancreas plays an important role in digestion and metabolism.

The organ produces enzymes essential for digestion and secretes hormones that help control blood sugar levels. These functions may be affected by pancreatitis that occurs when digestive enzymes, instead of breaking down food in the small intestine, attack the pancreas itself.

Grater lives north of Green with his wife, Leanna, and sons Gavin and Danny. He also has two older sons, Jacob and family of Clay City, Ky., and Courtney and family of Clay Center. He is the grandfather to four grandchildren.

Grater's other immediate family include his mother, Reva and sisters, Terri Jermark and Vicki Pfizenmaier and their families.
