There were several questions and issues that came up at the USJOC tournament that I wanted to address.

1. What was up with the bracketing? There were 10 kids in my son's bracket, from 5 different states and 2 from Kansas. The 2 Kansas kids had to wrestle right off the bat. I am confident had this not been the case, both would have placed. This apparently happened in numerous brackets.

2. The ref allowing drinks of water as a time out when the kid got tired during the match, several times by the way. I have obtained rules information on this and here they are.

Quote:
Section 2 Article 1
An injured or ill conestant is entitled to a miximum injury time out of 1 1/2 minutes which is cumulative throughout the match. There is a limit of two injury time outs which may be permitted in any match, provided the total time does not exceed 1 1/2 minutes. If a second time out is taken, the opponent wil have choice of position for the restart. If the second injury time out occurs at the end of the first period, your opponent will have the choice at the start of the second and third period. A contestant who indicates he has an injury for the purpose of preventing scoring or being pinned shall be charged with an injury time out.

Time required to correct illegal equipment is counted as injury time. Time used to recover and or replace a contact lens may be charge against a contestants injury time and counted as an injury timeout if the referee determines that this disrupts the flow of the match.

Note. Taking an injury time out for a non injury situation is unethical. (See Coaches Code of Ethics)
3. A Kansas kid being recalled to the mat 30 minutes or so after the completion of his match to rewrestle a match where they said they had the score wrong, after the ref had raised the kids hand. Again, the rule on that:

Quote:
Section 6, Artile 5---2. Errors involving the computation of match score must be corrected prior to the next match in which either wrestler completes. If the error, however, necessitates additional wrestling it must be corrected prior to the offended contestant leaving the mat area.
I have always had a great experience at USJOC and believe it is a quality tournament, but the above three issues as well as a possible weigh in for Kansas wrestlers must be considered if Kansas continues to support this tournament.
