No. 2 Iowa to Face No. 1 Oklahoma State

It will be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 match-up as the second ranked Hawkeyes (6-0, 0-0 in Big Ten) will face top-ranked Oklahoma State (5-0, 2-0 in Big 12) Sunday in Stillwater, OK. Meet time is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Ought to be a really good one. Both teams beat the tar out of #3 Minnesota.

I think the match-ups favor Okla State in the lower half of the weights. But Iowa has some opportunities for bonus points at a couple weights too.

I think Okla State by 3 or 4 points, but we'll see.

Is Joe Johnston expected to suit up at 157?

The site I looked at showed that Joe lost a close one 10-8 to the No. 4 ranked wrestler in this weight division.

Maybe Joe's father or someone else will see this and give us a more detailed description of Joe's match. I am sure many of us would be interested.

Sure. I lfted this text from theMat.com

"157: Shane Roller (OSU) dec. Joe Johnston (Iowa), 10-8
First Period:
Roller scored immediately off an ankle-pick that he turned into a single-leg for a 2-0 lead. After an escape, Johnston became aggressive, getting deep on a single-leg and double-leg, but both times the competitors went off the mat. The two got in another scramble later in the period when Roller got deep on a single-leg, but was unable to finish again. With 10 seconds remaining, Roller finished a takedown after a scramble to take a 4-1 lead into the second period.

Second Period:
Roller chose bottom and earned an escape for a 5-1 lead. Roller extended his lead to 7-1 after coming out on top of a scramble situation. Roller had one minute of riding time at the end of the period.

Third Period:
Johnston chose neutral. 30 seconds into the period, Johnston finally was able to finish a takedown, scoring on a low double-leg, to cut the lead to 7-3. After a Roller escape, Johnston was awarded one point for Roller stalling to cut the lead to 8-4. Johnston scored again on a low double-leg to cut the lead to 8-6. With 14 seconds remaining, Johnston drove Roller to the mat with a double-leg to cut the lead to 9-8. Johnston let Roller go but was unable to score again."

Joe is just now starting to realize that he can wrestle with the Division One starters. He'll take a few lumps at National Duals this week-end, but he'll be peaking just in time for the Big Ten tournamaent.
