I was at the Royals' game with my family last night. We beat the New York Yankees 11-0 taking the 3 game series (2 wins, 1 loss). It was great fun with an over 35,000 full house of screaming excited fans. Can you believe it, the Royals are in first place 1 ½ games ahead of the White Sox and I think 3 or 3 ½ games ahead of the Twins. Who are these guys? It is like George Brett, Frank White and the others have come out of retirement. The Twins are coming into town Friday for a weekend series. My eight year old daughter is having me taking her Saturday afternoon for Mike Sweeney poster day. This will be the fifth game I have been to this year and that is more than I had been to in the previous twelve years combined.

There are only six weeks to go in the season. If Royals can stay ahead of the White Sox and Twins, they will be in the playoffs. If you haven't jumped on the bandwagon now is the time to do it. They play a fast game. They play great defense and run the bases aggressively. They do not hit a lot of home runs or have a lot of All Stars on the team but they do play as a team. If you like baseball and like rooting for an underdog, do yourself a favor and go to a game or two. I bet you will enjoy it. I know this isn't wrestling related but I would highly recommend it for good relatively affordable family entertainment, especially if you are a Royals fan.

boy, i just knew all you bandwagon fans would come out of the woodworks pretty soon, now that the royals are finally doing good nobody is using "every snice the strike, baseball is just crap" but now kc's winning so it's "i love baseball and the royals rule" well i have been a fan all my life and i have never gave up and have always supported them and went to all the games i could, WIN OR LOSE!!!it just kinda pisses me off that people support them now. the last few years i could just go to the "K" and get my tickets. well monday i went and they were sold out and there were piece of **** scalpers selling tickets for 75.00 bucks apiece. so for the love of baseball i went to the t-bones game and had a great time.so instead of 225.00 bucks me and my boys saw a good game for 27.00 bucks.but i will always be a royals fan no matter what!!!!even if they had detroit's record...now back to wrestling..............

I regretted this topic posting after I read Jim's reply. It seemed he might be making fun of it. I thought about it and realized I should not have introduced it on a wrestling forum and certainly not in the Kids section. I felt that maybe Jim had a valid point if he was making a little fun of it. I was going to forget about it and not even look at the forum for a while, because I kind of felt a little stupid for introducing it at that point. But I received an e-mail that it had been moved to another section so I thought I would look to see what had triggered that.

My involvement in Kansas youth wrestling and this forum has primarily been in the Kids Section area over the last six years. A few of you who read and participate in the forum know me from youth wrestling participation of my son. This is why I put it in the Kids section and I rarely ever look in the Other section myself, but that really was the place to put it if anywhere on this forum.

My purpose for introducing it was to maybe influence a couple of people from the Kansas City area who have not yet been to a game to maybe attend a game or two for the remainder of the year. I have heard in the local media that several were questioning why more fans were not coming out to games during the week now that the Royals were in contention again. The media was saying that this was not a good sign for baseball's future in small market Kansas City. I know it was a naive thought that I could maybe help in a small way by influencing a couple of people to jump on the bandwagon but that was my main reason for introducing.

I was not intending to offend anyone. I apologize if I did that. I had no intention of introducing a controversial topic. I picked the wrong forum and I apologize to all of you for that. I was just in a very good mood after the Royals Wednesday 11-0 victory over the Yankees and I made a mistake by sharing that on the forum.

Deputydogg, I am not what Soren Petro would describe as a real baseball fan. He called us casual fans today. In truth that is what I am. I will go on a regular basis to watch a winner as I did throughout the Brett and Frank White years. You are correct I am a bandwagon fan. I believe like Petro though that for the Royals to be long term successful and to stay in Kansas City, unlike the Sacramento Kings of the NBA, that the Royals need to draw a lot of bandwagon or casual fans on a regular basis to their games. Anyway, I did not mean to offend you or anyone else. The Royals and any other team are lucky to have fans like you who will stick with them thru winning and losing. I am not enough of a pure baseball fan to do that.

mr. nowak i am not offended that you are a new fan, i glad that people are finally supporting the team but when they go on a losing streak or just plain suck. keep going out to the park and support them.that will keep the team around longer.
I really did not mean to make a big deal out of this. i guess i just worded it wrong. no hard feelings dude!!see you at the "K"

Deputydogg:

I have no hard feelings. You made a point about fair weather fans and it was a valid one. But I am a band wagon fan for certain teams and sports. I get teased about it at work a lot. I might like a certain actor or movie director but if they disappoint me with a few bad movies and I read from some reviewers that their current one is a dud, I'm probably not going to see it. Another way of looking at it is that it might give them some incentive to produce better results if fans are not showing up for poor performances either in movies, football, baseball, wrestling or whatever the form of entertainment or sport. I mean this stuff can get expensive. Why not demand a good product? I was just trying to let any people still on the fence know that right now the Royals definitely are a good show and worth the price.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. I hope that you enjoy it. I know I have. I have made some mistakes on it and said a number of things that I have regretted but I have tried not to develop personal grudges with anyone. I have made a number of friends from it. Some of them live in different parts of the State and some of them I met even though we disputed a few things on the forum. Sometimes I get frustrated by things said and I get so upset that I stay away for a little bit. Most of the time it is because I'm upset with myself. But I always seem to come back. On the whole this has been a positive and I have met and conversed with some very nice people. I hope the same for you. I hope we will meet at some wrestling meet in the future. My son wrestles for the STA wrestling club out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School so we go to a lot of meets in Johnson County and other areas of the State. I'm going to the game with my daughter this afternoon so hopefully we can win the second game of the series. Gobble had a tough outing last night but we are not going to win them all. Good luck, Vince

Jim Gaither:

I got on your team's website. You have a good website and it looks like you are in charge of that. Good work. I know you got a couple of good people leading your club in Coach Ed and Jennifer.

I also wanted to congratulate you on your son's performance this year. I assuming that the 10 and under Gaither wrestler is your son. I see he placed high at State in folkstyle and then followed that up with first places in freestyle and Greco. That is a terrific showing. Congratulate him for me.

Hey Vince, I think it is okay to interact with wrestling fans on the forum about other sports. Frankly, I have always liked the Royals and will say this, fair weather fans pay the bills and end up helping the team with revenues. I know because for years I was, and still am, an Atlanta Braves fan, remember I come from that part of the country. I used to watch Dale Murphy, Phil Neikro, Chris Chamblis and all of the other guys along with 2,500 other fans at the games. There was never trouble getting great seats in those days. Now you can't get a ticket to a great match up unless you buy it in advance, which is what I recommend for the Royals. For me I would love to see a Royals -Braves WS, but then I would have to yell for the Braves but I know I would probably end up being disappointed again. Until then, go Royals & Braves. By the way after the last few years there is no doubt that the Royals are the story in Baseball this year.
