We are also planning a bus trip to the Showcase. This is an outstanding tourney for women in freestyle. Freestyle is where it is at for women. We have practices now starting for freestyle, so don't be shy, even if you have never freestyled, if you are a female wrestler, you owe it to yourself to learn and master this style of wrestling.

The showcase is April 2-3, 2005. We will leave by bus from Wichita on Friday am and travel to Salina to pick up people then to Lawrence and KC area for more folks, then on to Marshall, MO for the tourney. We have a great hotel and the trip will include the bus, htoel for two nights, 3 meals and a t shirt and shorts for $100. Please consider this wonderful trip as a way to further your pursuits in women's wrestling.

As the girls who went to USGWA Nationals will tell you, it really helps to wrestle at large events with full brackets. The Missouri Valley College Freestyle Showcase looks to offer such competition. It is not too far of a drive and you can either go with the Krusaders for a very reasonable fee or seek carpool opportunities with other wrestlers. Do not sit at home while your competition is working to improve her skills. We have some good wrestlers in Kansas but for girls to advance to the next level it is important to seek out these types of wrestling opportunities. I encourage you to contact Jenni Edison of the Krusaders immediately if you have any interest in wrestling at this event.

If you are still unsure about freestyle, consider using this event to at least watch and learn about freestyle technique, strategies, and scoring. The girls who've tried freestyle wrestling seem to like it and it appears to be a fairly easy transition from folk style wrestling. There are girls freestyle wrestling practices scheduled almost every week in both Wichita and Burlingame (excluding Easter weekend and whenever there are girls tournaments) plus there are quite a few co-ed freestyle clubs around the state. Get as much mat time as possible. USAW Women's Nationals at in late July and you have plenty of time to get ready.

Congratulations to all the girls who participated in the Women's Freestyle Classic. The Krusaders competed well and brought home plenty of medals. Special congratulations go out to Morgan Ottesen of Shawnee - voted Most Outstanding Novice Wrestler; Tayler Frederiksen of Lakin - voted Most Outstanding Schoolgirl Wrestler, and Beth Johnson of Garden City - voted Most Outstanding Cadet Wrestler. Thanks Coach Ed & Jenni Edison for organizing a successful road trip to Marshall.
