It is with great saddness that I post this for Coach Ed--
Wrestling has lost yet another family memeber. Steve Patterson has started doing his wrestling in heaven now. Apparently, while we were at the CMSU tourney this Sunday Steve went to be with the lord. Steve is the father of Derek Patterson who graduated from NWHS in Wichita and Jared Patterson who graduated from Maize HS. Steve was a coach at NW's Jr wrestling program in the late 80's and then went on to be an official in the late 80's and 90's. He coached his sons and then faithfully followed them into their college careers. Both young men are currently wrestling at FHSU under Coach Bickley. This is yet another loss to our wrestling community and for the Fort Hays team as well. I know everytime I saw Steve at QuikTrip, he would fill me in on how the boys were doing in college. He will be missed and the Edison family is saddened today by his passing.
Coach Ed wishes to pass on a message to his wreslting family, especially the coach-dad's, that they need to take care of themselves. We do all this wreslting stuff "for the kids" but we need to remember that our "kids" will have kids and wrestlers also, and we want to be there to see all our wrestlers' kids learn to wrestle.
Derek and Jared and all the Patterson family, our prayers are with you. Be strong and remember the good times on the mat with your dad.
Ms. Jenni and Coach Ed
