Just from reading a few responses posted about the wrestling cheerleaders, i feel like some guys would rather not have them!! What do you wrestlers think? Do you want cheerleaders, or do you think we're just a distraction?!

They are fine, if they stay in the stands. Why should they get to be matside, but the rest of the team or parents can't.

Vote: Distraction

The only distraction made by chearleaders is to people sitting in the stands. They have never bothered me while wrestling, but maybe they do for some wrestlers. My suggestion is just to focus more on your match, I almost garantee that any quality wrestler doesn't get distracted while on the mat. I dont mind them being matside, they're just supporting their schools.

I have never even noticed the cheerleaders were there during a match as I have tunnel vision and have trouble focusing on anything more than 5 feet away, much less the cheerleaders.

Wrestling cheerleaders eat it, Reno style.
Except when they give me Laffy Taffy.

We haven't had any wrestling cheerleaders for a couple of years and we are surviving quite well.

My Vote: Irrelevant in wrestling

Those who supposedly can't compete are said to coach, those who can't coach sit on the side of a mat as a cheerleader or like a maniac mother yelling from the 8th row back giving match winning instructions that we would not have a clue to do without like:

TAKE EM DOWN!!!!!!! HALF HALF HALF!!!! and my personal favorite PIN HIM!!!!

I salute you crazy moms and annoying cheerleaders without you it would just be a technical match with nothing to distract us from it.

Bud Light presents: Real American Heroes
(Real American Heroes!!)

Today we salute you, Mrs. screaming mom wrestling fan.

(Mrs. Screaming mom wrestling fan!)

Those who supposedly can't compete are said to coach, those who can't coach sit on the side of a mat as a cheerleader... but those who can, scream match-winning instructions from the top of the stands...

(Say it loud!)

like a maniac, you yell from the 8th row back giving match winning instructions that we would not have a clue to do without like:

"TAKE EM DOWN!," "HALF! HALF! HALF!" and my personal favorite: "PIN HIM!"

(Stick his shoulders down, now!)

So crack open a Bud Light, Mrs. Screaming mom wrestling fan, and remember... without you it would just be a technical match with nobody to distract us from it.

(Chior girls: We'd have no distractions!)

Budweiser beer, Anheuiser Busch: St. Louis, Missouri...

Cheerleaders in any sport, especially wrestling, are a waste of oxygen that I could be breathing.

I like the extra added excitement of a bunch of cheerleaders pounding on the mat and screaming worthless advice that sometimes dont even correlate to the situation ur in on the mat. Also its really nice when u guys wear ur skirts that are so high we can see ur bums.

I like all the talk about cheerleaders. It gives us all something to argue about that isn't actually wrestling. Plus it's a good way to know who to look for at state.

I'm sick and tired of everyone thinking being distracted is a bad thing. I personally don't want to spend 24 hrs a day thinking about other guys in spandex. Sure, you need to concentrait on your matches, but you can psyce yourself out. I've been wrestling sense I was 7 yrs old, I have drilled a double, single, standup, sit out, fireman's, mary poppins, fish hook, ect. so many times that I found I do them the best when I'm not even thinking about them (which is why drilling is so **** important). Seriously, how many people during a match think "OK, Shoot a double NOW!". NO ONE, you train and drill and train and shadow wrestle and drill and drill untill you get to the point where you see an opening, and you hit your shot. You get to that point, and then you drill some more.

And as far as distractions go, nothing is more distracting than your opponent. You're out there trying to wrestle YOUR match, and here's this jerk out there trying to steal your thunder. You're trying to show off your single leg and then this guy SHOOTS ON YOU. How am I supposed to concentrate on my single leg if I'm busy sprawling?(this paragraph was written in a sarcastic tone untill now) The whole point of wrestling, hell ANY compition is to distract your opponent more than he or she can distaract you. Why else would we have set-up's for our shots, hand fighting, wrist control?

oh yeah ,and I vote a definate yes for cheerleaders (even the fat ones).
